Job overview
The post-holder will take the professional lead in developing, implementing and monitoring effective educational programmes and the ongoing training and development in renal education networking with local organisations to ensure the delivery of joint education and training for all renal staff. The clinical areas will include the haemodialysis unit (this includes all renal satellite units), renal medicine, peritoneal dialysis and transplantation.
The post holder will be clinically based, placing the clinical environment at the heart of learning and will participate in specific projects related to nursing practice. There is also an expectation of cross cover of the service of the haemodialysis clinical nurse educator and medicine team educators.
To actively manage the supervision of identified trainers maintaining the development of a researched evidence-based approach to patient care ensuring clinical practice meets best practice standards. Have an awareness of national/local policies and initiatives and actively participate in their implementation and development.

Main duties of the job
Support staff development and training across haemodialysis satellite units and at UHCW.
Will be expected to cross cover in the absence of the Renal Clinical Educator.
The Haemodialysis Clinical Nurse Educator will need to travel to all the satellite units based at Rugby, Coventry, Nuneaton, and Leamington Spa on a regular basis.
Expected to work weekly clinical shifts across all units.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Accountable for own actions in accordance with the Code of Professional Conduct. Will contribute to corporate objectives, acting within local, Trust and statutory guidelines and policies at all times.
- To support the training and development of all staff to ensure the maintenance of clinical competence allied to the Knowledge and Skills Framework and in line with national best practice and statutory requirements.
- To plan and implement training programmes to meet the professional development needs of all post-graduate nurses to ensure they are competent to meet the responsibilities of their role and set objectives of their personal development plans. This includes postgraduate nurses engaged in academic development pathways at university level.
- Formulate a Training and Development Plan annually to reflect the training and development needs of all staff within Renal Services with an awareness of the financial and budgetary implications.
- Maintain an identifiable clinical presence and undertake relevant clinical activities to maintain own clinical competency.
- Monitor all annual mandatory training of all staff within Renal Services utilising ESR and LMS systems. This will include maintaining a Training Needs Analysis spreadsheet.
- Implement a robust system to record and monitor progress and compliance with all staff’s training and development progress and maintain a renal database of all study completed.
- Promote research/evidence-based practice with audit outcomes, to inform and lead clinical practice and objective setting of clinical standards.
- Lead Renal Services educational group enabling communication between all areas regarding staff rotation, training and compliance across all areas.
- Take the lead in the induction programme for all newly employed staff within Renal Services. Clinical educator to also complete initial and final assessment of competency, to allow audit on progress. Support clinical leads with staff who require additional clinical support to achieve competencies and produce written updates of progress.
