Job overview

As  Matron you will have responsibility for the delivery of high quality, responsive, safe and effective care that improves patient outcomes and patient experience.

A high profile, accessible and responsive leader with managerial responsibility for nursing service delivery and advice across a number of departments within a speciality. The Matron will work within the group management structure, demonstrating and developing collaborative working within and across the MDT.

The Matron will have responsibility for the delivery of nursing care within a variety of surgical specialities including Ophthalmology, ENT, Max Fax, Colorectal, Upper GI, HPB, Vascular, Head and neck and Urology to name but a few. Also included in this role will be  ward based and day surgery care.

The Matron will be able to make informed decisions within their own specialty and scope of professional practice, involving patients and public to ensure agreed standards, targets and objectives are met. The key focus is on quality improvements in safety, effectiveness and patient experience in addition to corporate responsibilities including support for other colleagues and specialities and hospital bleep rota duties

Successful applicants will be required to provide an immunisation and vaccination report, from either their current UK occupational health provider or their UK GP.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

A credible senior leader with managerial responsibility for both nursing and allied health professionals ensuring services are responsive to patient needs.  Working as a visible lead within the group management structure, demonstrating and developing collaborative working within and across the MDT. The Modern Matron has a pivotal role in creating the best experiences and opportunities for our staff to become local, national, and international leaders in healthcare with the patient at the centre of everything we do.

The Modern Matron’s role is to empower others to strive for continuous evidenced based improvements and to motivate staff to always deliver the highest quality care to all who access our services to promote World Class Care at UHCW NHS Trust. The key focus is on quality improvements in safety, effectiveness, and patient experience in addition to corporate responsibilities, supporting other colleagues and on-call or hospital bleep rota duties 

The matron will also be responsible for delivering the goals as espoused within the Matron’s Charter (2019) taking a proactive as well as reactive stance on cleaning standards and infection control. Matrons have an individual and collective responsibility to develop digital and data capabilities for patient benefits. Supporting staff to use information and technology is therefore vital and pivotal to their role.
