Job overview

As a Band 6 Clinical Sister / Charge Nurse you would be responsible for supporting the overall daily management of the Nursing team within the Major Trauma Enhanced Care Unit, coordinating and leading clinical shifts, providing direct patient care and supporting the Ward Manager .  You will also lead and participate with projects to enable us to give the excellent care we currently provide. The Band 6 role includes rotation onto nights and weekends. As the Sister/Charge Nurse, you will be ensuring the application of effective clinical practice of all staff so patients receive the highest possible standard of care

Successful applicants will be required to provide an immunisation and vaccination report, from either their current UK occupational health provider or their UK GP. 

Main duties of the job

Candidates should have the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues to lead the nursing team within  MT ECU. The candidate must be pro-active in maintaining outstanding standards of patient care and service delivery.

  • To deliver and be a clinical expert in patient care and operational decision making within the Major Trauma ECU.
  • To work along side the team in a manner that promotes shared leadership and on-going professional development of self and others.
  • To work collaboratively with the senior team to drive patient safety and quality forwards through the development and implementation of service and quality improvement projects.
  • To work alongside the Ward Manager supporting with audits, absence management, roster planning etc.
  • Deliver and coordinate care, ensuring that assessment, planning,  implementation and evaluation of care is of the highest standard.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Accountable for own actions in accordance with the Code of Professional Conduct. Will contribute to corporate objectives, acting within local, Trust and statutory guidelines and policies at all times.
  • Effectively communicate information regarding clinical decisions, policy and care pathways to patients/carers and the multi-professional team.
  • A skilled practitioner and clinical leader providing support to the management team, participating in service/policy development
  • Responsible for clinical assessment of a group of patients and management of a team, ensuring appropriate care is planned, implemented and evaluated/audited.
  • Organisation of cross-departmental/organisational activities including HR, resource, and bleep-holder responsibilities as appropriate.
  • Demonstrate highly technical and/or practical skills to ensure optimum patient management including; complex patient monitoring; equipment management and frequent administration of invasive tests/procedures.
  • Develop and educate staff, participating in supervision, mentorship and appraisal as required
