Consultant Upper GI Surgeon
NHS Medical & Dental: Consultant
Job overview
University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire (UHCW) provides tertiary services for over 1 million people in Warwickshire and the surrounding region. UHCW is one of the most modern NHS facilities in the UK, being entirely rebuilt over 10 years ago. Partnership with Warwick University ensured state-of-the-art research and educational facilities were incorporated into the design.
UHCW is one of the UK’s busiest major trauma centres (TARN data), and all acute trauma specialties are available within the one institution.
The Upper GI unit is the tertiary service for Warwickshire and provides services for all aspects of Upper GI surgery, including benign hiatal surgery, Upper GI cancer resection and bariatric surgery. Robotic surgery is now undertaken for cancer resections; bariatric and benign Upper GI procedures and the successful applicant would need to demonstrate proficiency and experience in robotic surgery.
An excellent MDT supports the Upper GI cancer service. The department of Gastroenterology undertakes EUS, RFA and EMR. The department of Oncology and Radiotherapy have facilities both at UHCW and at satellite units (e.g. George Elliot Hospital). There is a well-established multi-disciplinary tier 3 & tier 4 weight management service working as part of the bariatric MDT.
