Main duties of the job
- To work as part of the CT department team delivering a high quality service to patients attending for scans. Ensure that a high level of safety is maintained and that policies and protocols are adhered to.
- To carry out both clinical and administrative duties in a team of Radiographers, Assistant Practitioners, Radiology Department Assistants and Radiography Students. As a department we provide a range of imaging services for more than 300,000 people across Nuneaton & Bedworth, North Warwickshire, South West Leicestershire and North Coventry.
- To perform CT examinations to the highest standard in accordance with department protocols and guidelines, using professional judgement, skills and experience; is not directly supervised, is accountable for own professional actions at all times, including in emergency and lone working situation. Giving information and advice where appropriate.
- To maintain high ethical and professional standards in appearance and attitude as within the guidelines published by the College of Radiographers and adhering to the statement of conduct as approved by the Radiographers Board, Health Professions Council. To maintain patient confidentiality.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- To supervise, clinically teach and advise other radiology staff, student radiographers and Radiology Department Assistants.
- To organise the workload and staffing within CT taking into account an ever changing workload, due to emergency cases ensuring an efficient and effective service.
- To undertake training and hold a certificate of competence to perform intravenous injections and administer contrast media within agreed protocols.
- To have a range of knowledge of specialist cross sectional imaging procedures undertaken throughout the cross sectional department.
- Have cross sectional anatomy knowledge and pathology recognition to ensure that identified abnormalities are brought to the attention of clinicians (medical staff/advanced practitioners) so that images may be reported upon urgently in the patient’s best interests.
- Through qualification, training and experience be competent to operate highly complex radiology equipment for the full range of CT examinations, possessing good manual dexterity and keyboard skills to optimise each individual examination.
- Checking patient’s details prior to examination and ensuring that such details are present and correct on the referral form/computer. Referrals must be justified within departmental protocols and within statutory regulations; IR(ME)R 2017 and the Radiographer must use their professional judgement to refuse inappropriate requests.

Experience
Essential criteria
- To use knowledge and experience acquired to act as a specialist, in the radiographic area of CT scanning and as such be accountable for your own actions
- Under protocol accept and justify requests for CT scanning using knowledge to ensure the most appropriate examination and scanning procedure is used To have the knowledge to interpret CT guidelines and policies and put into practice
- To have knowledge of radiation protection issues as regulated by IR(me)R 2018 & IRR17.
- To assess individual patient risk associated with the administration of Intravenous contrast agents.
- Evidence of ongoing CPD in clinically related and relevant subjects
Desirable criteria
- Experience and involvement in audit projects
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registration with HCPC
- BSc(Hons) Diagnostic radiography (or equivalent)
Desirable criteria
- Some experience of CT imaging
- Have or working/ or willing to work towards Post Graduate CT qualification
- College of Radiographers accredited IV injection course

- Broad range of communication and interpersonal skills, providing and receiving complex information, required to deliver service effectively to all users
- Ability to work as part of a team and demonstrate organizational skills in routine activities, enabling multi-tasking, working under pressure with interruptions and an high volume workload
- To be able to plan and prioritise patient centered/own workload effectively
- Computer literate, experience in using a networked computer system.
- Ability to practically implement policies and procedures into working environment e.g. Confidentiality, resuscitation, manual handling
- Evidence of multi-disciplinary working
- Ability to work under pressure whilst subject to interruption.
