Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a People and Workforce Advisor to join our team at George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust. To support the People and Workforce Operational Team in the delivery of an effective business focussed People and Workforce service:

  • To provide support and assistance to the People & Workforce Business Partners to deliver an effective and people centred Service within the Trust.
  • To provide and maintain an effective administration function for the People & Workforce Department, in relation to employee relation matters.
  • The post holder will be responsible for updating HR systems and ensuring the efficient management of data to produce accurate up to date responses to queries or reports.
  • The post holder will also be responsible for providing guidance to managers and staff on HR Policies and Procedures.
  • To assist the Operational People & Workforce Team with the development and implementation of policies and best practice.
  • In conjunction with People & Workforce Business Partners support in the achievement of relevant Key Performance Indicators (KPI) and standards of excellence on all people management issues.
  • To support the Operational People & Workforce Team in the wider delivery of workforce and learning priorities across the Trust, including the management of key workforce projects.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Provide support and assistance to the Operational People & Workforce Team in collating reports on behalf of senior managers, in order to help maintain the delivery of an effective HR Service throughout the Trust.
  • On behalf of the People & Workforce Business Partners/Managers undertake and advise on routine investigations as required, and undertake specific tasks and activities in relation to the application of HR policies and procedures.
  • Update and maintain employee relations cases as necessary with specific responsibility for the timeliness and accuracy.
  • Produce, analyse and present where required monthly KPI reports.
  •  In conjunction with the People & Workforce Business Partners/Senior People & Workforce Advisor review sickness absence data relevant to designated directorates and action appropriately in accordance with the KPI requirements.
  • Maintain good working relationships with Trade Unions and elected Staff Representatives, to encourage an effective partnership approach to all matters.
  • Deliver and actively contribute to the preparation of general and bespoke training across the Trust, including the Trust’s Induction Programme.
  • Undertake HR investigations, appropriate to grade, alongside managers.
  •  Present reports at routine hearings in conjunction with the Investigation Officer.
  •  Liaise with Occupational Health and assist managers with Occupational Health referrals.
  •  Provide advice in respect of Compassionate, Maternity, Paternity and Adoption leave requests, including advising staff and liaising with Managers as necessary.
  •  To contribute effectively to the People, Wellbeing and Transformation portfolio agendas including, Health and Wellbeing, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and Bullying and Harassment.
  • Deal with queries in a timely manner from managers and staff relating to policies and, terms and conditions of service.
  •  Participate in HR meetings as required.
  •  Take minutes of meetings where required to do so.
  • Actively maintain CIPD and professional development.
  • To support the Trust maintenance of Agenda for Change Terms and Conditions, including being a representative on Job Matching and Job Evaluation panels.
  • To provide Line Management to junior members of the team and seek guidance from the Senior People & Workforce Advisor when required.
  •  Undertake any other duties or project work which may deemed appropriate and commensurate with the role.

Qualifications and Professional Training

Essential criteria
  • Educated to diploma/degree level in relevant subject or equivalent experience
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
Desirable criteria
  • CIPD Diploma (or working towards)

Experience and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Recent experience within a generalist Human Resources environment, advising on terms and condition of service and employment legislation
  • Experience in supporting managers with employee relations issues including attendance, performance and conduct
  • Understanding of key employment legislation
Desirable criteria
  • Previous NHS Experience

  • Demonstrable understanding and knowledge of equal opportunities principles and best practice
  • Professional and customer focused skills to effectively manage incoming enquiries some of which may be of a sensitive or confidential manner
