There is an exciting new opportunity for a Senior Clinical Scientist post in the Biochemistry and Immunology department, University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire (UHCW). 

The Biochemistry and Immunology Department is part of the Coventry and Warwickshire Pathology (CWPS) networked service and covers four hospital sites, UHCW hospital, Rugby Hospital, Warwick Hospital and George Eliot Hospital, Nuneaton.  You will be joining a team of 5 Consultants, 2 Principal and 3 senior Clinical Scientists.  We are a department that is looking forward to developing its specialist services and expand its repertoire. 

We are looking for an enthusiastic addition to our team that can help us achieve the strategic goals for both services, which have gone through a number of changes over the last few years.

Successful applicants will be required to provide an immunisation and vaccination report, from either their current UK occupational health provider or their UK GP. 

Main duties of the job

• Provide scientific leadership and expert advice on clinical biochemistry scientific and clinical issues to departmental staff, consultant and junior medical staff, nursing staff and other clinical staff in this and other Trusts.
• To attend clinical meetings, ward rounds and clinics within the Trust and offer specialist, expert advice on clinical biochemistry as required.
• Act as the conduit between clinical staff, laboratory staff and support workers for areas of the clinical biochemistry service, providing advice on the appropriate use of the service and the interpretation of results.
• Participate in the duty biochemist rota. This is to be the first point of contact within the department for provision of specialist clinical and scientific advice to consultant and junior medical staff, general practitioners, nursing staff, other clinical staff and laboratory staff in other Trusts, for the efficient management of patient care.
• Hold delegated responsibility for defined areas of work within the department.
