Main duties of the job

The role is responsible for the successful planning and delivery of EPR Bedside Medical Device Integration BMDI across programme site(s) and ensuring the alignment of Network, Infrastructure and End User Device agendas to maximise success of implementation.

To manage the provision of Specialist Clinical Technical teams in networked electronic medical equipment often within the Clinical Environment across the Trust, Private Hospitals and Clinical Practices for which the Electro Bio Medical Engineering (EBME) has a commitment.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Responsibility for leading the BMDI aspects of the EPR programme developing strategies for how the Trust will approach device integration.

To manage the provision of software licenses in order to deliver BMDI the EPR.

Responsible for development of support processes and procedures for the trusts ICT and EBME teams or services to ensure they are able to adequately support BMDI going forward.

To manage the provision of networked medical devices ensuring communication between suppliers, engineers, ICT, EPR and clinical teams. To advise the Head of EBME on systems for management of networked medical devices.

To be the main point of coordination between ICT, EPR delivery and EBME with regard to the management of networked medical devices.

To develop and oversee procedures for checking and maintaining data quality within BMDI to EPR.

Validate HL7 data and clinical parameters that are charted within EPR and sign off with relevant clinicians.

In conjunction with those departments in the Trust and other healthcare organisations to which EBME has a commitment to define, plan and support training in the safe and effective use of networked electronic medical equipment for medical, nursing, technical and other staff.

To collaborate with ICT and EPR programme to develop network and device deployment solutions in accordance with manufacturers and Department of Health specifications.

To discuss the design and manufacture of modified networked equipment and innovative devices or systems with consultants, clinical scientists and other clinical staff. To propose designs, design changes and manufacturing methods.

To contribute to the deployment of innovative networked devices and modifications in order to assist consultants, clinical scientists and other clinical staff with Research and Development.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree in science or engineering or equivalent.
  • IPEM or Incorporated Membership of a relevant engineering institution or equivalent.
  • Membership of the Voluntary Register of Clinical Technologists
Desirable criteria
  • Postgraduate diploma, NVQ Level 4 or equivalent in management studies.
  • Project management qualification Prince 2, APM or equivalent

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant experience in a relevant Biomedical or scientific area (some of which may have been gained during qualification).
  • Significant experience in a relevant Biomedical or scientific area (some of which may have been gained during qualification).
  • Experience of delivering networked integration in a Healthcare environment
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of managing networked medical devices
  • Experience of implementing projects involving network devices preferably medical
  • Able to show experience using project management tool.

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Able to take a leading role in delivering large scale projects
  • Specialist knowledge and understanding of network integration involving medical devices
  • Knowledge and understanding of the principles of computing systems as well as electronic, electrical and mechanical engineering.
Desirable criteria
  • Cerner iBus deployment or similar
  • Project management
  • Knowledge and understanding of network security
