This post is a exciting opportunity for a dual role with our Gynaecology team. You would be expected to cover 30 hours as a Gynaecology oncology clinical nurse specialist and 7.5 hours per week dedicated to cervical Screening provider lead. The role would be to cover a five day service, ensuring one day is specifically to cover the CSPL working alongside our Colposcopy coordinator. 

Main duties of the job

  • This post will provide a comprehensive highly specialist service to Gynaecology oncology cancer patients throughout their care pathway including the overarching responsibility for the support of patients living with and beyond cancer. The candidate that is successful for the post will be allocated 7.5 hours specifically for the CSPL lead part of the role which is separate to the Gynaecology CNS role (30 hours).
  • The post holders will work closely with the Patients, Consultants, Macmillan, Colposcopy coordinator Gynaecology oncology team including CNS teams and relevant MDT members maintaining and developing nurse led services for the management of patients throughout their pathway from referral to on-going treatment and living with and beyond cancer.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • The main duties of these roles are Gynaecology Oncology CNS would be to support the cancer service led by our Cancer lead consultant ensure the cancer pathway is adhered too. Working alongside a dedicated team to ensure we meet national  Cancer targets.
  • You would also be expected to carry out health assessments both face to face and virtual.  Support patients that are in patients when they are attending for surgical intervention or generally unwell. Working autonomously and / or with a consultant within an outpatient's  setting this would include assessing referrals, requesting imaging and reviewing the images to see if patients require hysteroscopy. Gather evidence and present at MDT. Be able to work clinically with deteriorating patients Venepuncture and cannulation, vaginal examinations, conduct vaginal examinations, endometrial pipelles.
  • Following patients up through the whole pathway to ensure an excellent service. You will also be expected to carry out relevant training and help develop guidance and patient information leaflets.
  • Your role would also be to support nurses within the trust with regards to training and knowledge. this would include developing presentations and delivering them to the relevant target audience.

The CSPL lead element:

  • To oversee and co-ordinate the quality and effectiveness of the NHS Cervical Screening Programme (NHSCSP) services provided within the Trust; these services comprise cervical screening, histopathology and colposcopy at GEH.
  • The CSPL is responsible for maintaining close working relationships between all parts of GEH’s cervical screening activities and with NHS England and other stakeholders. The CSPL should also ensure close working relationships are maintained with other CSPLs across the screening pathway to provide continuity across the programme.

Both roles will ensure patient needs will be identified through a holistic need assessment and co-creating a Care and Support Plan ensuring appropriate referrals for information and psychological support.

Person specification

Experience and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Extensive clinical experience, significant post registration experience of management/leadership experience
  • Surgical nursing experience
  • Good communication skills. Experience of audit within the healthcare setting Specialty knowledge
  • Experience of ensuring that operational policies and quality management systems are implemented across the Programme (in conjunction with clinical and operational leads)
  • Aware of the guidance for managing NHS screening incidents

Qualification(s) and Professional Training

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse on NMC Register
  • Degree in Nursing
  • Evidence of working towards specialty related Degree or evidence of continuing academic progression in combination with equivalent Oncology experience
  • Relevant MSc or equivalent or higher degree
  • Participation in CPD programme

Skills and Abilities

Essential criteria
  • ENB 998 or equivalent or experience of formal teaching to groups of staff
  • Formal leadership and management training, leadership and motivation skills, Excellent communication skills
  • Organisational and negotiation skills, ability to respond to changing demands of service
  • Expert knowledge and understanding of the NHS Cervical Screening Programme
  • Experience of contract specification with NHS England
