Family Safeguarding Team – Dudley Locality
Black Country Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (BCHFT)
A very exciting opportunity has developed within Black Country Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust!!
We are recruiting into a new Family Safeguarding Team within BCHFT.
Professional qualification and active registration is essential for this role (Nurse, Social Worker, OT, and Allied Health Professional).
The post holder will be employed by BCHFT for the duration of the contract (noted above) and will be based within the Dudley Local Authority Safeguarding Team.
Main duties of the job
Family Safeguarding is a “Whole Family Approach” to working with children and families that supports parents to create sustained change for themselves and for their family.
The purpose of the service is to provide psychological and mental health support to the adults within a family concerning their safeguarding needs.
The post holder will be part of a team who work with the parents of families under the Family Safeguarding Model.
This fresh approach allows practitioners to focus on the ‘whole family’ and makes it easier for parents to access support that they need, to help them deal with the complex issues of domestic abuse, mental health and drug/alcohol abuse that harm their lives and those of their children.
The post holder will be part of a multi-disciplinary team and will work directly with the parent providing help and support to create lasting change. In your role you will demonstrate your ability to support and provide a level of containment to some of the most complex of clients and may assist in opening pathways to secondary care where required.
Working for our organisation
The Family Safeguarding model is built on core foundations of social work practice with shared values across the partnership workforce including:
• Supporting the development of stable relationships
• Having a shared model across agencies
• A focus on strengths and balance with need
• Promoting purposeful interactions
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The model requires the use of Motivational Interviewing to harness motivation to change and make it easier to access help. By using motivational practice to enable many more parents to accept help, Family Safeguarding provides specially designed individual and group work programs to change abusive behaviours, improve parental mental health and reduce harmful substance misuse. There will be an expectation that group work is facilitated and undertaken with those parents who are assessed as appropriate participants.
