Job overview

The consultant posts at RSCH and PRH encourage hands on management of all patients, ranging from minor injury to Major Trauma and provides an excellent opportunity to put your wide range of skills to the test daily. There is a wide knowledge base amongst the consultant group with significant opportunity to learn new skills and approaches to common problems.


Main duties of the job

The clinical duties of the post include the following:

• Clinical care to patients on shop floor
• Supervision of junior doctors, ACPs and ENPs
• Supervision of the department which includes ensuring timely review of patients.
• Respond to clinical governance issues
• Non-clinical duties as determined by job plan

There is a close working relationship between all levels of staff, from the Divisional Director and Acute floor management teams and this post provides a good opportunity to understand the managerial pressures around running a busy department

Experience /Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Basic Medical Degree
  • • Postgraduate qualification (FRCEM) or appropriate specialist qualification
  • • Full and specialist registration (with a licence to practise) with the GMC or be eligible for registration within six months of the interview. • If you trained in the UK, you must also have a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Emergency Medicine or be within six months of receiving it by the interview date. • If you trained outside the UK, you must provide evidence that your qualifications are equivalent to the UK CCT. (Equivalence must be confirmed by GMC by date of AAC)
Desirable criteria
  • Higher degree

Clinical Skills & Experience

  • • Understanding of clinical risk management
  • • An ability to communicate well with patients and staff

Knowledge

  • • Breadth of experience in and outside specialty
