Main duties of the job

The postholder will lead their own programme of research and, alongside support for clinical trials, BSMS and our parent universities offer extensive facilities and expertise to support a wide range of other research interests linked to oncology. This includes laboratory based (space is available if required) and health outcomes research. In addition, we have cross-cutting BSMS research themes of health inequalities, population health/prevention, and the health of coastal communities which will be relevant.

The successful candidate will undertake their research within the Department of Clinical and Experimental Medicine, contribute to research leadership and research-led undergraduate and postgraduate courses. They will be expected to provide clinical leadership to the clinical trials unit (CTU), which will have 2 PAs associated with this activity and provide mentorship and guidance to research-active academic and NHS colleagues in Sussex. One of the key aims of the post is to drive the development of the cancer-focused trial portfolio led by academics in Sussex alongside those currently trials active within the NHS Trust. The candidate will help develop strategies for increasing both research income and clinical trial recruitment.
