Job overview
We are recruiting a full time 10 PA Consultant Paediatrician with expertise in Cardiology to join our existing team of 12 highly engaged and collaborative colleagues based at St Richards Hospital. A specialist interest in Cardiology is essential.
The successful candidate will join our team of Consultants to provide high quality acute and outpatient Paediatric and level 1 Neonatal services with strong links to regional tertiary services. The post includes a combination of resident tier 2 and non-resident traditional Consultant on call.
We welcome informal visits from interested candidates to come and meet the team and answer any questions you may have.
Applicants must be on the GMC Specialist Register.
Main duties of the job
This post provides an exciting opportunity to lead a DGH Paediatric cardiology service with support from colleagues within the trust and strong links with the local tertiary cardiology service in Southampton.
The role includes participation in the Consultant of the week rota where you will lead the MDT to provide care to Paediatric inpatients across our Paediatric, CAU, level 1 NNU and postnatal ward areas. You will undertake outpatient clinics in Cardiology and General Paediatrics.
Out of hours commitments include traditional non-resident Consultant on call with a frequency of 1:19 and Resident on call working including 26 nights per year and 3 long day weekends on the tier 2 rota. There may be some flexibility possible in the pattern of resident on call night working to suit individual preferences.
St Richard’s hosts medical students and trainees from the KSS deanery and a variety of medical schools providing opportunities for development and training in education and clinical supervision.

Experience/Qualifications
Essential criteria
- • Basic medical degree
- • MRCPCH or appropriate specialist qualification
- • Full and specialist registration (with a licence to practise) with the GMC or be eligible for registration within six months of the interview. • If you trained in the UK, you must also have a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Paediatrics or be within six months of receiving it by the interview date. • If you trained outside the UK, you must provide evidence that your qualifications are equivalent to the UK CCT. (Equivalence must be confirmed by GMC by date of AAC)
