Job overview

Are you a Registered Mental Health Nurse who is interested in a person-centred mental health practitioner role?

Is a role where you can provide a safe and calm space for people suffering from mental health crisis appealing to you?

If so, our Urgent Care Practitioner vacancy in our Haven at Mill View Hospital could be just the role for you!

The Haven is a 24/7 crisis assessment unit located on the Mill View hospital site in Hove, providing an alternative to A&E to provide a comprehensive biopsychosocial crisis assessment for any adult aged 18 or over who is not subject to the Mental Health Act.

The Haven team were Gold Award winners at our Trust Positive Practice Awards in November and we are very proud of the positive feedback from people who have used the Haven.

To protect the health and safety of our staff/workers, patients, and those attending our sites, we encourage our workforce to get fully vaccinated against COVID

This post offers an incentive or relocation package up to the maximum of £4000 (pro rata applies and subject to terms and conditions).

Main duties of the job

As an Urgent Care Practitioner in The Haven, your priority will be to ensure the safety of service users in crisis. You will complete the assessment of the individual’s needs and risks, accurately recording and communicating this information.

Our work is fast-paced as we do not hold caseloads, however you will have support from senior practitioners, a consultant and will work closely with a Psychologist in our team. We are a small 4-bed unit with 2 practitioners (band 6 or 7) and a Healthcare Assistant (Band 2) on shift at any given time.

We work closely with our inpatient and community mental health teams across the Trust and have developed excellent working relationships with the emergency services who refer people to us and we are continuing to develop bespoke crisis plans.

The Haven is at the forefront of our ambition to provide patient-centred care, providing people with a calm, safe and nurturing space for them to receive treatment and recover from mental health crisis.
