Associate Director of Quality, Band 8d– Bank Opportunity
Three-month assignment. 3 – 4 days a week, hybrid working
University Hospitals Sussex is seeking an experienced senior quality leader to provide immediate bank cover while recruitment to the longer-term (3 year fixed-term contract) role is completed.
The Trust is preparing for an Independent Maternity Review, commissioned by the Department of Health, which is due to begin in October 2026. The review will examine around 1,000 cases and will be highly sensitive for families, staff and the wider organisation.
Main duties of the job
The postholder will provide senior leadership for the Trust’s response, including quality and corporate governance, information management, data, communications, wellbeing, professional standards and liaison with external bodies. They will help establish the systems and processes needed to support the review and coordinate clinical and corporate experts across the Trust.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
We are looking for a calm, credible and experienced NHS quality leader with a strong understanding of patient safety, complaints, clinical effectiveness, medico-legal processes, governance and regulation. Experience in women’s and children’s services or a major external review would be beneficial. You will need excellent judgement, political awareness and the ability to build trusted relationships with staff, partners and families while working under significant scrutiny.
