Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Adult Inpatient Mental Health SLT service across Bradford and Airedale. The postholder will be part of a New Inpatient service development opportunity alongside a newly recruited Band 7 Clinical Lead SLT. You will hold a caseload of patients with Mental Health diagnosis who have communication needs and/ or dysphagia. Providing both assessment and intervention through direct and indirect means. Contributing towards care planning and positive health and wellbeing outcomes. You will work alongside members of an MDT including Allied Health Professionals, Nursing, Medical and Health Care Staff. You will also have opportunities to support the development of new pathways and training packages within this role.

The Clinical Lead and the post holder will be supported by a Principal SLT across ALD and Mental Health who will have oversight and management responsibilities. There is also a Band 7 Highly specialist SLT working in the Community Mental Health Team providing input to patients in their own homes or care settings who you will also be able to liaise with.

This is a Newly funded opportunity to develop the SLT service across the Bradford and Airedale Mental Health inpatient settings. It is a great opportunity for somebody who would like to be involved in contributing to the development of new policies and pathways ensuring safe practice and improving health and wellbeing outcomes for service users.

Main duties of the job

To work effectively as part of the Speech and Language Therapy provision within the adult mental health inpatient services across Airedale Centre for Mental Health and Lynfield Mount by ensuring both communication and dysphagia pathways are developed and followed by all staff, training and clinical supervision is provided and standards of service provision are set, monitored, and maintained.
This role will promote good communication standards so that people who use the service, their families and carers are involved in decisions about their care. To manage a caseload of both routine and complex cases.

Essential criteria
  • Registered Speech and Language Therapist with Health Professionals Council, SLT Degree/dip Qualification, dysphagia qualification.
Desirable criteria
  • Mental Health Experience

  • In depth experience of working with adults with acquired and progressive neurological disorders / Mental Health Conditions
  • Experience of working in a variety of health, social, educational and residential settings
  • Experience of working in a Multi-disciplinary team
  • Experience supporting pre-grad SLT students, clinical support workers and junior colleagues
  • Evidence of training others e.g. parents, support staff, professionals

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to mentor SLT New Graduate, SLT Generalist and Clinical Support Workers
  • Able to plan and lead existing and new therapy groups
  • Able to work independently for most general cases with support for complex clinical cases specialism
  • Ability to contribute to Audits
  • Research and Development Excellent time management and prioritisation Skills
