Advanced Clinical Pharmacist – Rotational

Are you ready to make a difference in patient care within the NHS?  We are pleased to announce an exciting opportunity for a passionate Lead Pharmacist to become part of our friendly team.

Do you have the skills to become a Lead Pharmacist and not sure where you would like to specialise?  In a healthcare landscape shaped by an aging population and increasingly complex inpatient admissions, the importance of maintaining generalist knowledge has never been more critical.

In this role, you will be at the forefront of innovation as we introduce one of the first Lead Pharmacist rotational positions.  Experience rotations in Surgery, where a brand new state-of-the-art Surgical Day Case Unit awaits.  In Oncology, where every prescription plays a vital role in the fight against cancer, and in Maternity, improving the pharmaceutical care of our women’s services, and many more opportunities to lead and develop services.  This role is also an opportunity for you to  maintain your generalist knowledge and to develop leadership and quality improvement skills that will shape the future of our pharmacy department.

To thrive in this role, significant post-qualification experience is essential.  If you are interested in completing a prescribing qualification, support will be provided.

The postholder:

  •   Will enjoy developing the pharmacy services provided to various specialities, across two hospital site.
  •  Will demonstrate the Trust Values in their daily working, while also making complex clinical decisions to better patient outcomes.  You will be actively involved in ensuring the safe use of medications both in hospital and on discharge, and will be expected to take the lead in providing patient-centred medicines optimisation.
  •  Will be passionate about maintaining high standards of patient care, have strong team work ethics and a sense of accountability.  Being committed to innovation and research, your quality improvement skills will be a key attribute, along with a proven ability to lead and manage change.  You will supervise and teach others as part of your role.

The role will involve working 37.5 hours per week, including weekends and bank holidays on a rota basis.

Please note this post is subject to a probationary period of six months.

To provide, lead and develop the clinical pharmacy service to the specialist areas in line with patient and departmental needs, in order to ensure the delivery of a high quality, patient centred and effective clinical pharmacy service.

To contribute effectively to patient care as part of the multidisciplinary team, by attending ward rounds or other appropriate meetings.

  • Able to prioritise with consultation, prioritise, plan and adjust current pharmacy services within the specialised area
  • Able to work effectively to short, medium, long-term and changing deadlines
  • Able to work effectively in front of an audience.
  • Able to review and provide specialised advice on medicine use in specific clinical areas.
  • Able to obtain, interpret, analyse and report on drug expenditure within the specialised area.
  • Able to work independently and under guidance, within departmental, Trust and statutory and professional codes of practice/ethics
  • Computer literate

Knowledge

  • Specialised knowledge of therapeutics and medicine use within acute medicine
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the formulation, preparation, and therapeutic action of medicines

Qualifications

  • MPharm or equivalent
  • Registered as a Pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
  • Post graduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent experience
  • Independent Prescribing qualification

  • Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain
  • Leadership / Management qualification
  • Working towards Faculty Accreditationi
