Job overview

As a Midwifery Leader the post holder will work as part of a dynamic regional maternity team in delivering oversight and monitoring of compassionate maternity services across the East of England  

·         Will lead by example ensuring collaborative approaches to working and relationships are at the forefront of practice.

·         Will ensure that women, families and the local population are central to all activities.

·         Will question and support in equal measure therefore enabling transformation and critical enquiry into practice and delivery.

·         Will seek out opportunities to collaborate with others ensuring evidence based embedded practices, to improve outcomes.

The post holder will have accountability and responsibility for the strategic and operational development across maternity services, including quality improvement and transformational leadership and workforce across the East of England, with particular focus on the national perinatal policy. 

 

 

 

 

 

Main duties of the job

Key aspects of this role will be to: -

·         Support delivery of key workforce and leadership development actions as referenced in the Maternity and Neonatal Plan and the Long-Term Plan, using expert clinical knowledge, senior experience and authority to influence Directors and Heads of Midwifery, Lead Obstetricians and Trust/LMS Board members.

To lead the quality and clinical workforce expertise contribution and work

·         in partnership with systems and providers requiring support.

·         Ensure the development and management of relevant strategic maternity quality plans across the East of England.

·         Proactively manage the key quality risks and issues associated with ensuring appropriate actions are taken to mitigate or respond.

·         Monitoring and establishing accountability on the overall progress of National policy to ensure completion within agreed timescales. 

  • Manage and actively promote relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Lead on developing expertise and skills to develop leaders of the future·        
  • Develop and implement systems to ensure information is properly managed and best practice is shared across the team, Directorate and the wider NHS organisations as appropriate.

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in-person.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will be responsible and accountable to the Regional Chief Midwife. Working as part of a matrix approach to delivery the post holder will lead by example ensuring individuals think and work outside of traditional organisational or professional silos. The post holder will foster and embody an approach to leadership that is both collaborative and collective.

 ·         To lead to better outcomes for women, families and local populations through systematic, evidence-based approaches that enable both improvement and transformation.    

·         To work collaboratively across the NHS England matrix, including integrating the National Director’s portfolio with the Domain Leads.

·         To act as a champion for service users and their interests and involve the public and patients in the policy development and decision-making of NHS England.

·         To ensure all public and service user contact is of the highest professional standard.
