Job overview
The Division of Surgery and Anaesthesia is investing in a consultant post within our urology services on a flexible 10 PA job plan.
Applications are encouraged from experienced consultants wishing to take up a new challenge or newly accredited consultants, with a specialist interest in upper tract laparoscopy, Stone management and Robotic Surgery to join our existing surgery team who will be supported through our highly regarded development programs. The post holder is also encouraged to develop his/her own further subspecialty interest.
Main duties of the job
The posts will cover an acute and elective inpatient service at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary and a day case and outpatient service across both Huddersfield and Halifax. This is a Full-Time post providing 10 Programmed Activities (PAs), but applicants wishing to work part-time are also encouraged to apply and job plans will be adjusted accordingly, and by negotiation with appointees.
Currently there is an establishment of 7 Consultants in Urology and 6 Speciality doctors along with a deanery registrar.

The post holder(s) will work closely with their Urology colleagues in the same hospital but also with their colleagues on the other site. They will liaise with colleagues in Urology as clinical need demands. Cover of daytime duties when on leave will be covered by Urology colleagues which may necessitate working across the
All Consultant in Urology are part of the Urology MDT. Membership includes Medical and Clinical Oncologists, CNS’s, Therapists, Histopathologists, Radiologists and research nurses. There is an MDT Coordinator and the database is maintained. The team meets weekly to review all new and suspected cancers and is well established linking into the MDT with Bradford teaching hosptials.

Essential criteria
- FRCS or equivalent
- All applicants must have Specialist registration for Surgery (or within 6 months of being admitted to the register for trainees, if currently in a training programme in the UK) but consideration will be given to applicants with relevant consultant level experience or trainees in a UK training scheme who are within 6 months of attaining specialist registration.
- Applicants must be Registered with the General Medical Council and hold a Licence to Practise
Desirable criteria
- Relevant higher degree (MD/PhD)
Experience and Achievements
Essential criteria
- Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in all aspects of Urology services
Desirable criteria
- Experience in business planning and contract negotiation
- Experience and understanding of coordination of waiting lists and patient flow during the COVID pandemic (especially for patients who are out of area OOA)
- A developed or developing sub-specialty interest, with experience of introducing new pathways
- Understanding current issues within urology and the future direction of the specialty
- Understanding current issues within the wider NHS
- Attendance at a recognised management course
- Shows ability to work with and lead others across professions
Teaching and Training
Essential criteria
- Experience of and enthusiasm for clinical teaching of postgraduate doctors and non-medical staff.

- Academic achievements/evidence of familiarity with research methods which have resulted in publications

- An enhanced DBS disclosure will be required with the Disclosure and Barring Service
