Job overview
We have 2 exciting 9-month, fixed-term opportunities for an FY3/ST1 Doctor (or equivalent level) in Paediatrics at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust. As this is a 9 month post, applications need at least 6 month experience working in the NHS and to hold current GMC licence.
The successful postholder(s) will work across Paediatrics and Neonates. Inpatient paediatric services include a large ward on the Calderdale site, which mainly cares for medically unwell children and children requiring short stay elective surgery, and an inpatient ward on the Huddersfield site, which cares for children receiving elective and non-elective surgery. A&E cares for paediatric patients on both sites and there is a Paediatric Assessment Unit based on the Calderdale site. The Neonatal Unit is based in Calderdale and has 20 cots. It has a level 2 status and delivers intensive, high dependency and special care for babies born at 27 weeks gestation and above. The post holder will work alongside paediatric trainees and other doctors. They will be expected to cover the Children’s Ward, Paediatric Assessment Unit (total 37 beds) and the level 2 (LNU) Neonatal Unit (3 ICU, 3 HDU, 14 SCBU). They will be supervised at all times.

Working for our organisation
We employ more than 6,500 staff who deliver compassionate care from our two main hospitals, Calderdale Royal Hospital and Huddersfield Royal Infirmary as well as in community sites, health centres and in patients’ homes. We also are incredibly proud to have almost 150 volunteers here at CHFT.
We provide a range of services including urgent and emergency care; medical; surgical; maternity; gynaecology; critical care; children’s and young people’s services; end of life care and outpatient and diagnostic imaging services.
We provide community health services, including sexual health services in Calderdale from Calderdale Royal and local health centres. These include Todmorden Health Centre and Broad Street Plaza.
We continue to modernise and invest in our health services to build on our strong reputation. Foundation trusts are public leaders in improving quality in health services. They are part of the NHS – yet decisions about what they do and how they do it are driven by independent boards. Boards listen to their Council of Governors and respond to the needs of their members – patients, staff and the local community.
Foundation trusts provide what the health service wants, yet are also free to invest quickly in the changes to the local community needs, in striving to be the best, and in putting their patients first.
