Job overview
Within the CRH Materials Management team we have an opportunity for a Materials Management Assistant to help to develop and enhance the
delivery of our patient focused services strategy. The post holder will work within the Materials Management team within CHS which plays a vital role in ensuring that medical and surgical consumable stock is available to all the wards and departments within the trust.
There is a requirement for manual handling and physical distribution of products. The need to work at pace whilst ensuring accuracy is critical to
ensure clinical staff have the necessary medical/surgical clinical consumables to deliver healthcare.
Regular interaction with staff from all wards and departments is key so a friendly and can do attitude is required at all times. A team player is
essential as the daily challenges will require an individual who has is flexible in their approach to the role.
The Person:
We are looking for someone ideally with experience of:
⯑ Working within a stock control based environment.
⯑ Understanding of the basics of stock replenishment.
⯑ Customer service and a friendly ‘can do’ attitude.
⯑ Working as part of a team in a time pressured environment

Main duties of the job
As part of a locally based Materials Management Team the post holder will:
⯑ On a routine regular basis, ensure that goods are replenished in all areas as required using both stock management systems and oracle i-proc ordering systems.
⯑ To ensure that stock is maintained at the appropriate level using hand held data capture devices and the putting away of all stock to agreed standards.
⯑ Provide reports, specialist advice to customers and generally act as a focal point for all communication relating to ordered stock.
⯑ Maintain appropriate materials management and stores records on behalf of the customer.
⯑ Ensure that the services expected of the Procurement and Supplies Department are delivered in the most cost effective manner consistent with the agreed service standards.
⯑ Work closely with other members in the Materials Management Team and with the Procurement and Supplies Department colleagues.
⯑ Develop relationships with Trust colleagues.
⯑ Build and maintain strong customer relationships.

- Carry out a full materials management arrangement as appropriate in accordance with established procedures and timescales, ie the moving,
handling, distribution, receipting and storage of goods to the relevant stock location.
- Responsible for maintaining stock levels and rotation of locally held stock as appropriate and ensure stock does not exceed its ‘use by’ date.
- To regularly (approximately 10 times per day) move NHS Supply Chain roll cages (up to 180kg) and boxes (up to 18kg), within ward/department
areas.
- To work in an environment where interruptions will be encountered on a daily basis, eg where wards and departments make requests for
urgently required products, which can vary between 1 and 6 different requests per day

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- 4 passes at G.C.S.E. level (or equivalent), at level C or above including English and Maths (or 2 years relevant logistics/stock handling experience.
Desirable criteria
- Health and Safety, COSHH, Risk Assessment, Moving and Handling awareness
- Willingness to undertake appropriate further study
Knowledge and Skills
Essential criteria
- Good written, verbal and analytical skills
- Effective communication skills
- Ability to deal with customers courteously and effectively within clinical environments
- Good interpersonal skills
- Ability to use telephone in a professional confident manner
- Computer literacy - Basic computer skills (hand-held computer technology, mainframe computer technology, PC packages)
- Ability to lift goods, move trolleys from point of receipt to end user area’s i.e. wards or departments within the Trust site all in accordance with manual handling requirements
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of Medical & Surgical products
- Understanding of logistics, e-dc and NHS Supply Chain
- Trust Standing Financial Instructions
- Purchasing processes within a trust.
- Understanding of stakeholder requirements pertinent to the healthcare industry

Experience
Essential criteria
- Previous experience in a supplies department
- Working knowledge of the principles of effective stock control
- Knowledge of the principles of materials management
- Experience of main frame computer stock control systems and orders
- Working knowledge of bar code technology
Desirable criteria
- Experience of introducing new systems and processes
- Introduction of value for money savings initiatives
