Would you like the opportunity to work within our Urology service 

If yes, then this post is for you. We are looking for a substantive Consultant in Urology to join us within the General Surgery Directorate at  Calderdale and Huddersfield  NHS Foundation Trust 

The Department of Urology seeks to appointment a consultant urologist  to join our existing team of 6 consultants and 6 specialty doctors.  

This post is permanent and we would welcome applicants experienced in laparoscopic and Robotic upper tract urological procedures.

The Trust and NHS is facing a time of transformation, challenge and opportunity. The Urology team is developing its service as part of GIRFT recommendations , introducing new ways of working and to further develop its urology diagnostic unit.

We require a  consultant urologist with vision and leadership skills to join our current team of enthusiastic surgeons and  strengthen our team for the future.

 

Main duties of the job

The posts will cover an acute and elective inpatient service at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary and a day case and outpatient service across both Huddersfield and Halifax. This is a Full-Time post providing 10 Programmed Activities (PAs)  consitsting of some flexible PA sessions, but applicants wishing to work part-time are also encouraged to apply and job plans will be adjusted accordingly, and by negotiation with appointees

The post is ideal for a consultants urologist experienced in laparoscopic and robotic surgery or working towards. Primarily based at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary there is an expectancy to travel across sites during oncall or elective work.

The urology unit procedures a comprehensive service covering all aspects of urology surgery for cancer and benign diseases and plans to improve further pathways within our urology diagnostic unit.

The post is ideal for urologist who are keen to explore new innovative improvements within the service and have an interest and active role in teaching.

There is a strong focus on career development and professional support within a forward-thinking and supportive urology  department.

Working for our organisation

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The successful candidate will join the existing urology consultants in providing benign and oncological urology treatments. 

A subspecialty interest which complements those of existing colleagues would be welcomed.  There is an existing Urology MDT and In collaboration with bradford for the delivery of prostate cancer surgery. 

The department are working on improvements to the way in which we deliver Emergency urology  care. These include twice daily consultant ward rounds. 

 Applications are encouraged from experienced consultants wishing to take up a new challenge or newly accredited consultants who will be supported through our highly regarded development programmes. The post holder is encouraged to develop his/her own sub-specialty interest.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MRCP or equivalent
  • You must be on the specialist register for Urology or within 6 months of being admitted to the register for trainees, if currently in a training programme in the UK. In accordance with the regulations, all other categories of Doctors must be on the GMC specialist register to be considered for a consultant appointment by the Advisory Appointments Committee
  • Applicants must continue to hold a Licence to Practise
Desirable criteria
  • Relevant higher degree (MD/PhD)

Experience and Achievements

  • Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in all aspects of Urology

  • Experience of and enthusiasm for clinical teaching of postgraduate doctors and non-medical staff

  • Training in clinical and educational supervision
  • Attendance at a teaching course
  • Formal qualification in teaching/education

  • Eligibility to work in the UK
  • Ability to work in various locations throughout the network of services provided by Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust
  • For areas requiring EPP Clearance (Exposure Prone Procedures), this will also be a requirement of the health screening
  • An enhanced DBS disclosure will be required with the Disclosure and Barring Service
