Job overview

We are seeking an experienced procurement leader to join Calderdale and Huddersfield Solutions Ltd (CHS) as Head of Procurement and Supplies. This pivotal role will lead a team of 58 staff delivering procurement and materials management services across Huddersfield Royal Infirmary and Calderdale Royal Hospital. You will shape strategic procurement, drive regional collaboration through the West Yorkshire ICS, and play a key role in CHFT’s £200m hospital reconfiguration programme. This is an exciting opportunity to influence how healthcare procurement supports patient care and operational excellence.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide strategic leadership for CHS’s Procurement and Supplies team.
  • Oversee category management, contract management, materials management, and transactional procurement.
  • Lead procurement for major capital projects, including CHFT’s £200m reconfiguration programme.
  • Represent CHS in regional collaboration initiatives, delivering efficiencies and cost improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with Public Contracts Regulations, Procurement Act, and Provider Selection Regime.
  • Develop and implement procurement strategies aligned with sustainability and innovation goals.
  • Manage team performance, budgets, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The Head of Procurement and Supplies will:

  • Lead and manage CHS’s procurement function, ensuring delivery of SLA and KPI targets.
  • Develop procurement strategies and work plans to achieve cost improvement and sustainability objectives.
  • Provide expert advice on procurement and commercial contracting to internal stakeholders.
  • Drive compliance with all relevant legislation and CHS governance requirements.
  • Oversee procurement for capital projects and influenceable spend through effective category management.
  • Represent CHS in regional forums and ICS collaborative initiatives.
  • Manage and develop staff, fostering a culture of learning and continuous improvement.
  • Maintain robust systems for contract management, e-procurement, and performance reporting.

Qualification

Essential criteria
  • Professional procurement qualification or be able to demonstrate equivalent experience at a senior level in a complex environment
  • Experience of leading procurement services at a senior level in a complex environment
  • Degree or relevant professional or management qualification.
Desirable criteria
  • Professional procurement qualification
  • Related professional qualification / membership of professional body (commercial, sales and marketing or business) or equivalent experience

Experience

  • Knowledge of NHS procurement regulations and the procurement
  • procedures of an NHS Trust
  • OJEU/FTS tendering experience
