Job overview
To work as part of the ward or department team in providing
compassionate care to patients, service users, carers and families.
This is a pivotal role that is essential in providing care and support to
patients and service users through direct and indirect care, working
within clearly defined limits and attainment of agreed competence.
Act as a role model at all times, reflecting the trust values and
behaviours and delivering high standards of care. Be self-aware and
open to receive and learn from feedback.
Act as an advocate on behalf of patients and service users,
recognizing, respecting and responding to the diverse needs of our
population.
This position is not currently eligible for a certificate of sponsorship in line with Home Office guidance as it does not appear on the skilled worker visa occupation list.

Main duties of the job
• At all times treat patients, service users, families, visitors and
colleagues with dignity and respect to deliver compassionate care,

• To maintain confidentiality in all aspects of work and work within the
Healthcare Support Worker Code of Conduct.
• Work in a collaborative and co-operative manner with other
members of the care team to meet the holistic needs of patients and
carers.
• To establish and maintain effective communication and relationships
with the multi-disciplinary team, respecting the equality and diversity
of each and every person he/she/they comes into contact within the
course of his/her/their business.
• Uphold the privacy and dignity of patients at all times.
• Work in line with Trust policies and procedures and within scope of
competence, undertaking mandatory training and essential skills
training as identified for the role.
• Contribute to the development of the clinical area, through
contribution of new ideas to improve patient care/experience and by

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Prepares the Lab on a morning ready for the day ahead
Takes phone call messages
Collects from SSD – Trays, gowns sterile instruments, sterile labels and bowls
Takes used SSD products back to sterile services
Makes label packs ready to go to sterile services
Maintains and monitors SSD stock according to forthcoming lists
Prepares equipment bags for the day after lists; pacemakers, box change etc.
Monitor top up stock and report back to Sister
Monitor stock levels re non stock items and report back to Sister
Puts stock away
Acts as a dirty nurse for the scrub nurse i.e. opens and tips sterile items onto the sterile field
Acts as the circulatory nurse during every clinical list [ works 3 days a week ]
Brings the patient into the Lab, prepares the patient, and takes their dressing gown and slippers in to recovery.
Positions the patient
Talks to the patient and reassures while Dr is getting into the circulation re Coronary Angiograms
Positions the trolley for the patient either in the Lab or in recovery dependent on the procedure carried out
Turns the room around for every patient
Cleans our 2 trolleys every week
Cleans all lead aprons, thyroid shields and belts every week
Photocopies leaflets, referrals, checklists and other documentation
Bags and takes away clinical waste
Ensures sharp bins are emptied and replaced as necessary [and filled in]
Ensures clean wipe tubs are topped up and labelled
Clears and cleans the room at the end of the day
Stocks up the labs equipment ready for the next day’s list
Orders and monitors Linen stock and puts away deliveries
Sent for errands for Drs, Collections of notes etc.
Collects patients from the day ward when Porters are unavailable
Takes patients back with the ward nurse following the procedure when porters are unavailable
Keeps up to date with training relevant to her post
Keeps up to date with mandatory training
Fills in theatre man
Liaise with ward WD1 and porters regarding the daily list

Essential criteria
- Good written and verbal communication skills in English
- Commitment to high quality care
Desirable criteria
- Basic computer skills
Qualifications

- NVQ in Health and Social Care
Knowlegde
Essential criteria
- Previous relevant experience as a Health care Support Worker
- Understanding of the role of the support worker within a multidisciplinary team
- Ability to carry out assigned tasks effectively in a busy environment
