GP Associate Dean - Patch APD Derbyshire

GP Educator GP03

Our Organisation

We share the core values set out in the NHS Constitution, which all colleagues are expected to demonstrate.

We support you to work in a way that is best for the NHS, our patients and you and your colleagues. Talk to us about how we might be able to accommodate a flexible working arrangement, whether that’s a job share, part time, hybrid working or another flexible pattern.

Job overview

The Associate Dean (Primary Care) will support the Primary Care Dean and GP School in setting the strategic direction and development of clinical and professional education in Primary Care across the multi-professional primary care workforce within the Midlands.

This post will have specific patch Associate Dean responsibilities for GP postgraduate training across Derbyshire, providing senior educational leadership and oversight for the Derby and Chesterfield GP Specialty Training Programmes (GPSTPs). The postholder will work closely with local Training Programme Directors, GP practices, programme teams and other stakeholders to support the quality, delivery and development of GP training across the Derbyshire patch.

We are looking to recruit to 2 session’s permanent.

Remuneration will be at GP03 point of national GP educator pay scale.

Main duties of the job

• Support with all aspects of Midlands Primary Care workforce development, including finding innovative workforce solutions and advising on the commissioning of education for primary care.

Provide senior educational leadership and oversight for GP postgraduate training across the Derbyshire patch, encompassing the Derby and Chesterfield GP Specialty Training Programmes.

• Work closely with local Training Programme Directors and programme teams to support the effective delivery, quality management and development of GP training across Derbyshire, including responding to significant trainee, trainer or placement issues where senior educational input is required.

• Responsibility for implementing innovative strategies of delivery and the evaluation of high-quality primary care education and training in NHSE Midlands.

• Key role in supporting the commissioning, transformation, and quality management of multi professional primary care education and training in accordance with the standards set by NHSE and regulators.

• Be a key member of the GP School Team and deputise as requested. The role and responsibilities will overlap with, and complement the other members of the senior team, requiring flexibility in working practices.

Working for our organisation

NHS England has a wide range of statutory functions, responsibilities and regulatory powers. These are focused on supporting the wider NHS to deliver high quality care, as well as doing those things that are best done once for the whole NHS.

Our staff bring expertise across clinical, operational, commissioning, technology, data science, cyber security, software engineering, education, and commercial specialisms — enabling us to design and deliver high-quality NHS services.

In March 2025, the Government announced that NHS England and the Department of Health and Social Care will increasingly merge functions, ultimately leading to NHS England being fully integrated into the department.

If you currently work within the NHS and if successful at interview, we will initiate an Inter Authority Transfer (IAT) via the Electronic Staff Record (ESR). This retrieves key data from your current or previous NHS employer to support onboarding, including competency status, Continuous Service Dates (CSD), and annual leave entitlement. You may opt out at any stage of the process.

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in our offices.

We cannot offer visa sponsorship for any vacancies.
