Job overview
The Product Manager supports the development and delivery of innovative products within the FDP Local Product Team, working with NHS provider trusts, Integrated Care Boards (ICBs), supplier partners and frontline users to address operational and clinical challenges, delivering benefits.
The NHS Federated Data Platform (FDP) central to the NHS’s digital transformation, enabling organisations to use data, real-time insights and emerging AI capabilities to improve decision-making. By bringing together information from across health and care settings, FDP supports better service planning, resource optimisation and improved patient outcome.
The role supports products through the FDP Product Lifecycle Framework, from investigation and incubation to pilot and adoption. Working closely with clinical and operational teams, the post holder will identify user needs, translate them into clear requirements and user stories, and help shape product improvements that deliver practical value.
As part of a multidisciplinary team, the Product Manager will coordinate product activities, support governance processes and work with colleagues across Demand and Delivery, Transforming Operational Delivery (TOD), AI, Benefits, Clinical Safety and Information Governance to ensure products meet NHS standards and strategic priorities.

In March 2025, the Government announced that NHS England and the Department of Health and Social Care will increasingly merge functions, ultimately leading to NHS England being fully integrated into the department.

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in our offices.

Essential criteria
- In-depth practical experience or formal training in any relevant or adjacent delivery discipline (e.g. user-centred design, software development, delivery management, project management) OR completed study at postgraduate level.
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Practioner level knowledge of the product lifecycle and how products in different stages of it benefit from different design and development approaches.
- Working level knowledge of a variety of techniques for idea generation, backlog prioritisation, gathering and analysing user or stakeholder feedback, and understanding service metrics and analytics.
Skills & Experience
Essential criteria
- Practitioner level skills and experience in working with teams and stakeholders to define user stories with suitable acceptance criteria, key performance indicators (KPIs) and associated performance metrics and measures.
- Working level skills and experience in determining relevant objectives, key results and performance indicators for a product or service to helps delivery partners, stakeholders and management to ensure the best strategic decisions are made.
- Working level skills and experience in fostering collaboration within and between diverse multidisciplinary service or product delivery teams (e.g. containing a mix of developers, designers, user researchers and other experts).
