TIS Delivery Manager

NHS AfC: Band 8a

Our Organisation

The NHS is building a culture that is positive, compassionate and inclusive – and we all have our part to play.

As employers we are committed to protecting and promoting the physical and mental health and wellbeing of all our colleagues. This underpins our values as set out in the NHS Constitution and supports us to be an Employer of Choice, while helping our colleagues to deliver high quality services for our patients and communities.

As a flexible employer, we want to support you to work in a way that is best for the NHS, our patients and you. Talk to us about how we might be able to accommodate a flexible working arrangement whether that’s a job share, part time, hybrid working or another flexible pattern. In addition, although the role advertised may have a ‘home’ office base indicated, we remain committed to supporting flexibility around workplace locations. If it works for the service, we will do our best to make it work for you.

We are an accredited Living Wage Employer which means that every colleague working for our organisation and third-party contractors will earn a real Living Wage.  We are one of over 15,000 organisations, who voluntarily chose to pay the real Living Wage.

Job overview

Please note only candidates who can demonstrate experience with delivery management of digital products and agile experience will be considered.

This role presents an exciting opportunity to be part of service that is delivering positive change to our users and stakeholders. We are an multi-disciplinary agile team that develops and maintains digital products and services aimed at supporting and improving Postgraduate Medical and Dental Education (PMDE) and other professions.

As a Delivery Manager, you will drive the delivery of digital products and services at pace.  You will build, motivate and support the product team and ensure that they are focused, responsive and delivering value.  You will use a range of agile methodologies to remove obstacles and blockers which hinder delivery progress and deliver products and services in an iterative, user centred way.

You will have a clear understanding of delivery methods and practices.  We expect you the postholder to be working with stakeholders and users, breaking down barriers and planning at a high level, and at a detailed level where necessary. You will be able to work within the product team, and across other product teams and functions, as well as with third party, especially in managing and supporting shared dependencies and goals.

TIS is a national team and although we have two “hubs” in London and Manchester, you can base yourself from any NHS England office across the country subject to approval.

Main duties of the job

The Delivery Manager will be responsible for one or more products and services within the TIS programme and will work in an agile multi-disciplinary product team with a focus on user-centred design.  You will support and motivate the team to achieve outcomes and delivery that meets are users’ needs.  Specifically, you will:

  • Deliver high quality digital products to end users using appropriate methods.
  • Use agile development methodologies and user centred design.
  • Use of tools and methods for measuring and estimating work, and for predicting and planning the future schedule of work, within the context of agile delivery.
  • Ensure the team are working in a high-performing and multi-disciplinary team way with high levels of personal trust and empowerment.
  • Plan, support or manage user and stakeholder engagement and communications.
  • Have familiarity, or build understanding, of technical processes, such as continuous integration and delivery and test or behaviour-driven development
  • Have familiarity, or build knowledge, of technical tools such as Git and automated monitoring
  • Remove blocks to work progression.
  • Develop and manage collaborative relationships within the team, with other product teams and more widely across services.
  • Using knowledge of agile and the GDS Service Standard / user centred design to drive transformation and the improvement of products and services.

Working for our organisation

Our work supports the NHS to deliver high quality services for patients and best value for taxpayers.

Our staff bring expertise across hundreds of specialisms — including clinical, operational, commissioning, technology, data science, cyber security, software engineering, education, and commercial — enabling us to design and deliver high-quality NHS services.

We lead the NHS in England by:

  • Enabling local systems and providers to improve the health of their people and patients and reduce health inequalities
  • Making the NHS a great place to work, where our people can make a difference and achieve their potential
  • Working collaboratively to ensure our healthcare workforce has the right knowledge, skills, values and behaviours to deliver accessible, compassionate care
  • Optimising the use of digital technology, research, and innovation
  • Delivering value for money

Earlier this year, the Government announced that NHS England will gradually merge with the Department of Health and Social Care, leading to full integration. The aim is to create a smaller, more strategic centre that reduces duplication and eliminates waste.

If successful at interview, we will initiate an Inter Authority Transfer (IAT) via the Electronic Staff Record (ESR). This retrieves key data from your current or previous NHS employer to support onboarding, including competency status, Continuous Service Dates (CSD), and annual leave entitlement. You may opt out at any stage of the recruitment process.
