Job overview

This is a very exciting opportunity for an experienced Dietitian to support the development, implementation, continuous monitoring, and improvement of the Active Together Programme.

The overall purpose of this role is to lead, deliver, and sustain the success of the dietetic element of the Active Together Programme at Airedale.

This role includes working under the guidance of the Therapy Operational Manager for the Active Together Programme to ensure Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and milestones are achieved.

The Dietitian will also ensure the effectiveness and sustainability of the dietetic component of the service ensuring the delivery of evidence-based practice, and better outcomes for patients.

The successful candidate will also be a part of the friendly and supportive wider Active Together service which includes Physiotherapists, and a Psychologist, with opportunities for peer support, CPD and provision of clinical supervision.

Main duties of the job

Airedale NHS foundation trust are working collaboratively with Yorkshire Cancer Research to implement the Active Together model to individuals diagnosed with cancer in the Bradford district and Craven areas.

 

The Active Together programme will run alongside the existing treatment pathways to ensure patients are optimally prepared for treatment and beyond. It aims to maximise resilience to treatment, improve longer term health, minimise side effects and empower patients to be partners in their healthcare.

 

This is a funded 5-year programme which will have staged implementation into all relevant cancer pathways. 

 

The Post Holder will:

Support the implementation of the cancer prehabilitation services, in conjunction with the Active Together team, and service manager.
 
Coordinate dietetic input to patients referred into the Active Together Service. 

 

Provide leadership for an evidence-based dietetic pathway for patients with a cancer diagnosis, with curative intent, across multiple cancer pathways.
 
Provide highly specialist, evidence-based dietetic advice, teaching and supervision to other members of the Active Together Service and the wider MDT.

 

Be responsible for the development of guidelines, protocols and procedures that ensure patient safety.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree or Post-graduate diploma in Nutrition and Dietetics
  • HCPC registered
  • Evidence of relevant continuing personal and professional development
Desirable criteria
  • Member of the BDA
  • Recent post graduate courses relevant to Cancer/Cancer rehabilitation
  • Motivational Interviewing and/or Behavioural Change qualifications

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Recent experience working with oncology and/or palliative patients
  • Experience of delivering dietetic advice to groups
  • Experience of multidisciplinary team working
  • Experience of clinical supervision both as supervisee and supervisor
  • Experience of providing nutrition education and training to other health care professionals.
  • Experience of motivational Interviewing and/or Behavioural Change techniques
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of and recent involvement in student training
  • Experience of developing and implementing guidelines in own clinical area.
  • Experience of taking part in service improvement
  • Experience of taking part in research

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • In depth knowledge to support expert clinical practice in cancer care and rehabilitation
  • In depth knowledge of a wide range of medical and surgical conditions in adults, including artificial nutrition support.
  • Knowledge of motivational Interviewing and/or Behavioural Change techniques
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of the roles of other professionals and the principles of partnership working with key stakeholders
  • Knowledge and understanding of the culture and dietary practices of the local community including minority ethnic groups

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to work flexibly, prioritise own workload, and manage time effectively
  • Excellent communication and counselling skills including observation, listening, motivational interviewing, and empathy
  • Excellent presentation skills, both written and verbal, and ability to adjust style and content as appropriate.
Desirable criteria
  • Ability to adjust verbal presentation skills and style to suit the situation.
  • Clinical audit skills
