Assistant Finance Business Partner (Band 6)

NHS AfC: Band 6

Job overview

An  opportunity has arisen to join the 2022 HFMA Finance Team of the Year as an Assistant Finance Business Partner. We are looking for an innovative and highly motivated finance professional to join the Financial Management Team working with the Surgery & Diagnostics Division providing a comprehensive financial management and advice service.

The role is part of the Financial Management Team, based at Airedale General Hospital. You will work as part of a close-knit finance and Information team which provides support to empower Board and Trust leaders to make informed decisions on the future of the Trust.

The post holder will plan their own workload to ensure that monthly and annual deadlines are met within the policies and procedures set within the department. The role includes a significant amount of non-routine tasks, and often tight and conflicting deadlines, so the post holder will need to be able to adapt to these work situations.  The role has line management responsibility.

The post holder will be responsible for the delivery of an effective service, supporting budget holders and other staff across the Division to understand, plan and manage their financial position. This includes the production of annual plans, forecasts, business cases and giving financial challenge and support to a wide variety of colleagues, while ensuring risks and issues affecting financial performance are communicated clearly.

Main duties of the job

  1. To ensure accurate and timely accounting of all transactions in the financial ledger, in line with Trust SFIs, SFOs and other departmental procedural guidance and timetabling.
  2. To produce financial planning, forecasting and other returns – which may be for internal or external audience.
  3. Support and guide budget holders by providing financial information, analysis, advice, and challenge to enable them to meet their financial targets and operational commitments.
  4. Plan work of self and direct report, implement new systems and developing procedures as appropriate to enable tasks to be completed to strict deadlines.
  5. Give help, advice and training to budget holders and others on financial issues, with particular focus on budgetary control, investigating variances and suggesting corrective actions, in line with current Trust policies.
  6. Manage direct report(s) including performance appraisal, recruitment, training and guidance.
  7. Deputise for colleagues as appropriate

Working for our organisation

We are always looking for enterprising and innovative approaches to the way we provide our services. We are a national centre for telemedicine and introduced telehealth to the UK offender healthcare sector and also provide the service to patients in their care homes. Community matters to us and we are supported by 400 dedicated volunteers and have strong links with Bradford University, Craven College and Leeds City College to ensure we inspire the workforce of the future.

We want to attract staff who embrace our ‘Right Care’ behaviours of compassion, a commitment to quality of care and working together for patients – we want to make these part of our DNA.
