Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Pathology Department at Airedale General Hospital for two part time 22.5 hours per week Phlebotomy Co-ordinator posts.
We are looking for individuals with a positive can-do attitude, who demonstrates this through commitment to the role, passion for patient care and who enjoys both working as part of a team and leading it. Applicants must be reliable, flexible and be able to work effectively under pressure with excellent communication skills and a good command of the English language.
Previous phlebotomy healthcare experience is essential as the role will include managing and training other Phlebotomists. Previous management or leadership experience is desirable.
Applicants must be able to drive.
Working hours will Monday-Sunday, between the hours of 08.15 and 18.00 depending on the needs of the service. Flexibility in working hours may be required, sometimes at short notice to respond to changes in service demands. Flexible working patterns can be considered to fit personal and service needs. We suggest applicants to get in touch if they wish for more information on how this might be supported.
Rotational bank holiday working will also be required.
Weekends and Bank holidays will receive an additional payment.
Main duties of the job
The main duties will be to lead the team that collects blood samples from patients on the hospital wards, in clinics, outpatient departments and various sites in the community. This will include direct line management responsibilities, ensuring the service is maintained across all the phlebotomy clinic sites and across the various ward locations on the Airedale General Hospital site.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Certification of phlebotomy competence
- Knowledge through experience equivalent to vocational qualification level 3 or diploma level
Desirable criteria
- GCSE Science - Post not suitable for graduates
- First Aider
- People management/leadership qualification
Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant experience in Phlebotomy and venepuncture procedures, including complex case scenarios
- Experience of basic people management skills (co-ordination of staff, sickness reviews)
- Experience of training
Desirable criteria
- Experience in Managing people and processes (including performance management, appraisals, recruitment/selection)
