Specialist Dietitian

Band 6

Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our innovative and supportive Dietetic team at Salisbury District Hospital. This full-time role offers a varied inpatient caseload, with a specialist focus on spinal care (0.4 WTE).

You will join a forward-thinking adult Dietetic service, working alongside experienced clinicians across specialist areas including Nutrition Support, Oncology, Diabetes, Critical Care, and Burns & Plastics. The role provides excellent opportunities to develop advanced clinical skills within a supportive multidisciplinary environment.

A key responsibility will be leading dietetic care within the Duke of Cornwall Spinal Treatment Centre, a 42-bed regional specialist unit providing rehabilitation for patients with spinal cord injury and disease. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a specialist multidisciplinary team, improve patient outcomes, and support service development and innovation.

Applications are welcomed from experienced dietitians and those seeking to further develop their expertise, particularly in spinal rehabilitation and nutrition support. The role offers opportunities for professional growth, leadership development, quality improvement, and involvement in student supervision and mentoring of junior staff.

Main duties of the job

Work as part of a dynamic and collaborative Adult Dietetic Team, delivering high-quality nutritional care to inpatients across a diverse range of specialist clinical areas. A small but mighty team, we are proud to have colleagues recognised through both Trust and national CN awards, reflecting our commitment to innovation, excellence, and patient-centred care.

Take a leading role in providing expert dietetic care for patients with spinal injuries and spinal cord disease within the Duke of Cornwall Spinal Treatment Centre, supporting patients throughout their rehabilitation journey and making a meaningful impact on long-term outcomes and quality of life.

Develop strong links with the national network of specialist spinal dietitians, providing exciting opportunities to share best practice, contribute to innovation, and help shape the future of spinal nutrition services locally and nationally.

Play an active role in driving service development within spinal specialties, with opportunities to lead quality improvement initiatives, influence clinical practice, and contribute to the ongoing growth of this specialist area.
