Dietitian - Dietetics

Band 5

Job overview

The Dietetics Department at Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust is looking for either a newly qualified dietitian or an experienced Band 5 seeking to broaden their clinical experience within a busy and supportive district general hospital.

We are a small, friendly and highly respected team with an excellent reputation across the hospital. Our dietitians work closely with multidisciplinary teams and are recognised for the valuable contribution they make to patient care throughout the Trust.

We warmly welcome applications from students graduating this year and are able to support employment prior to HCPC registration. New graduates benefit from our established preceptorship programme, designed to provide structured support, confidence and development during the transition into practice. We are also committed to ongoing professional development and actively support further education and training opportunities.

Nutrition is highly valued at Salisbury Hospital, with access to a wide range of specialist services including Burns, Plastics, Oncology, Diabetes, Spinal Injuries and Trauma Rehabilitation. This role offers excellent exposure to varied clinical caseloads and opportunities to develop specialist knowledge early in your career.

You will join a forward-thinking and innovative Nutrition Support Team where experienced dietitians undertake extended clinical roles, including supporting the GI team with gastrostomy tube placement.

Main duties of the job

The role will mainly involve provision of acute inpatient dietetic support to the inpatient wards in Salisbury District Hospital.

The post holders will liaise and support medical and nursing staff on the dietetic and nutritional management of patients in the following areas:

General Medicine, General surgery, Orthopaedics, Respiratory, Elderly Care and Stroke

The role will be supported by our highly experienced Dietitians who provide specialist care to the Stroke, Gastroenterology, Burns, Oncology, Intensive Care, Paediatric and Spinal services.

You will also be involved in the championing of MUST across the hospital, working jointly with other health professionals in many specialties including SLT, tissue viability, stoma care and the therapy teams.

There will also be opportunities to be involved in further service development work in alignment with the department's priorities.  Advancing clinical skills is encouraged within the department through shadowing and CPD sessions, and extended roles.

The post-holder will be an active part of providing clinical placements to students. We are passionate about doing our part to train the dietitians of the future.

Please see attached Job description and person specification for full details of roles and responsibilities.
