Are you an organised, motivated individual with excellent communication skills looking to make a difference in patient care? We have an exciting opportunity for a Medical Secretary to join our dedicated Colorectal team at Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust.

As a key member of our administrative workforce, you will provide high-quality secretarial and administrative support to our colorectal consultants and clinical team, ensuring that patients receive a seamless and professional service.

About You

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Confident with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly organised with the ability to prioritise a varied workload.
  • Proficient in IT systems, with strong typing skills and attention to detail.
  • Compassionate, patient-focused, and able to work as part of a team.
  • Previous medical secretarial or administrative experience in healthcare is desirable, but training and support will be provided.

Main duties of the job

·        Provide comprehensive secretarial support to colorectal consultants and the wider team.

·        Manage clinical correspondence, reports, and patient records with accuracy and confidentiality.

·        Act as the first point of contact for patients, relatives, and external organisations, ensuring queries are handled professionally and compassionately.

·        Organise outpatient clinics, appointments, and follow-ups, ensuring patients are seen in a timely manner.

·        Work collaboratively with colleagues across the Trust to ensure a smooth patient pathway.

Essential criteria
  • Accurate word processing skills.
  • Educated to GCSE English Language Grade C or above.
  • Comprehensive IT skills with knowledge of Microsoft packages, including Outlook diary management.
  • Evidence of high level office administration skills with experience of developing and maintaining robust office procedures.
  • Audio typing skills.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills to meet deadlines.
  • Able take instruction and to question whenever unsure.
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Experience working with Electronic Healthcare systems, including patient data entry, record retrieval, and document management.
