Are you an organised, motivated individual with excellent communication skills looking to make a difference in patient care? We have an exciting opportunity for a Medical Secretary to join our dedicated Colorectal team at Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust.
As a key member of our administrative workforce, you will provide high-quality secretarial and administrative support to our colorectal consultants and clinical team, ensuring that patients receive a seamless and professional service.

About You
We are looking for someone who is:
- Confident with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Highly organised with the ability to prioritise a varied workload.
- Proficient in IT systems, with strong typing skills and attention to detail.
- Compassionate, patient-focused, and able to work as part of a team.
- Previous medical secretarial or administrative experience in healthcare is desirable, but training and support will be provided.

Main duties of the job
· Provide comprehensive secretarial support to colorectal consultants and the wider team.
· Manage clinical correspondence, reports, and patient records with accuracy and confidentiality.
· Act as the first point of contact for patients, relatives, and external organisations, ensuring queries are handled professionally and compassionately.
· Organise outpatient clinics, appointments, and follow-ups, ensuring patients are seen in a timely manner.
· Work collaboratively with colleagues across the Trust to ensure a smooth patient pathway.

Essential criteria
- Accurate word processing skills.
- Educated to GCSE English Language Grade C or above.
- Comprehensive IT skills with knowledge of Microsoft packages, including Outlook diary management.
- Evidence of high level office administration skills with experience of developing and maintaining robust office procedures.
- Audio typing skills.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills to meet deadlines.
- Able take instruction and to question whenever unsure.
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Experience working with Electronic Healthcare systems, including patient data entry, record retrieval, and document management.
