Job overview
The Oncology team has a new and exciting opportunity available for someone with the appropriate skills and experience to join our friendly, fast paced and proactive service. This is a varied and interesting role within a friendly department. The post holder will be expected to contribute to the provision of the highest standards of patient care.
You will have excellent communication skills and will have a flexible approach to working within the team. Responding effectively to enquiries from the general public, service users and other colleagues.
This role is varied and busy and we are looking for a forward thinker, who can adapt to change and be responsive in supporting the administrative needs of the clinicians within the department.
You will be educated to GCSE English and Maths A-C or equivalent, be computer literate and able to type at a good pace and accurately.
Main duties of the job
To support the Chemotherapy Schedulers with outpatient clinic management in order to facilitate pre-treatment Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapies (SACT) appointments, including rebooking appointments when treatment is clinically delayed.
To produce clinical letters and documents using Electronic Patient Records, arrange appointments and collect/collate investigations.
Liaising with Nurses, Doctors and other members of the multidisciplinary team including Inpatient/Outpatient Bookings teams and the Pembroke Suite to provide a quality service for the patients.

Essential criteria
- Educated to GCSE grade C or above in English and Maths, or equivalent qualification.
Desirable criteria
- RSA grade II or equivalent touch-typing skills.
Experience
Essential criteria
- Comprehensive IT skills with knowledge of Microsoft packages, including Outlook diary management.
- Evidence of high-level office administration skills with experience of developing and maintaining robust office procedures.
- Accurate word processing skills.
- Administrative experience in a busy, customer focused environment.
- Flexible approach to working and willingness to support/cover other teams when/if required.
Desirable criteria
- Familiar with trust systems i.e. Lorenzo, Big Hand, Review, etc.
- Recent NHS experience.
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Excellent communication skills and ability to develop working relationships with the various speciality teams and stakeholders.
- Maintain excellent working relationships with colleagues and other health care professionals both internally and externally.
- Analytical and judgement skills – ability to review data and highlight potential problems to management team, along with potential solutions.
- Able to use own initiative within parameters set by Line Manager, and delegate and make decisions as appropriate.
