We are seeking a dedicated individual to work across our adult in-patient wards on a rotation basis between medicine, surgery, and admissions as a pharmacy support worker. In this role you will improve medicines safety, prevent critical missed doses and help to facilitate efficient and timely patient discharges.
This role will see you embedded into the clinical pharmacy service. On a daily basis you will be working alongside our very experienced medicines management technicians as well as junior and senior pharmacists .
The assistant we are looking for will be dedicated, hardworking and willing to undertake additional study/ training to gain a foundation level medicines optimisation accreditation.
Main duties of the job
As a pharmacy assistant, your key responsibilities will involve working closely with pharmacy colleagues to provide a responsive pharmacy service to clinical areas. This includes liaising with ward staff, GP surgeries, other hospitals, and community pharmacies as necessary.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential for effectively interacting with patients, their families, and carers. Under supervision, you will be responsible for analysing patient medication, confirming suitability for use, and ordering additional supplies when needed. Dispensing medicines, maintaining ward stock, and assembling discharge medication are also part of your duties.
Additionally, you will participate in audits, contribute to stock management, and assist with training new staff. Planning, organisational, and problem-solving skills are important for managing activities and adjusting priorities as required.
