An exciting opportunity has arisen for a registered nurse to join the Regional Plastics Unit as a Clinical Nurse Specialist for Breast Reconstruction
The role involves providing specialist nursing practice, advice, and support to patients undergoing reconstructive surgery, for breast cancer and non-oncological breast conditions. Acting as a key point of contact for those patients, their relatives, and carers. Being accountable in the delivery of personalised, holistic care. Also, working as a member of the multi-disciplinary team (MDT) to achieve evidence-based care, contributing to the development and delivery of breast reconstruction specialist nurse services, on both an inpatient and outpatient basis.
Main duties of the job
- Support a seamless pathway for patients undergoing breast surgery under the plastic surgery team on an inpatient and outpatient basis.
- To use highly specialist nursing, problem solving and critical thinking skills to monitor and coordinate complex situations. Recognise if your patient's health is deteriorating and take appropriate action or escalate.
- Ensure provision of service through collaborative partnerships with internal and external organisations and individuals.
- Promote collaborative working relationships, multidisciplinary working, and effective communication between all members of the MDT and other members of staff.
- Demonstrate leadership skills facilitating the continuing development of knowledge, skills and competencies supporting breast reconstruction patients and nursing teams supporting those patients.
- Practice as an accountable, autonomous nurse taking personal accountability for your actions and decisions.
- Maintain safe practice, understand your own limitations, and escalate where appropriate.
- Deliver, safe, compassionate, and holistic nursing care. Ensure patient’s dignity and privacy is always maintained.
- Act as patient advocate.

Essential criteria
- The post holder will be a first level registered nurse with a Diploma or Degree in Nursing and/or evidence of relevant continuing professional development equivalent to post-graduate diploma level
- Evidence continual professional development.
- Two years of relevant post registration experience.
- Work well in a team but also have the confidence to practise autonomously.
- Demonstrate excellent communication skills.
- Act as a role model and provide clinical leadership.
- Organise resources and establish priorities.
- Demonstrate compassionate holistic care.
- IT skills
- Excellent self-awareness.
- Excellent time management and organisation skills.
- Ability to think creatively and contribute to service improvement.
- Knowledge of current publications/recommendations relating to breast reconstruction including Oncoplastic Breast Reconstruction and Guidelines to Best Practice Guidelines.

Desirable criteria
