Experience and Skills

Essential criteria

• Foundation degree or diploma equivalent to 240 academic credits, Level 5 of the qualification and credit framework (QCF) or diploma in a relevant subject e.g. healthcare. • NVQ level 2 or equivalent qualification (GCSE) in Maths and English, Grade C or above.
• Relevant and recent evidence of previous experience of working with stroke or neuro patients with direct client or patient contact.
• Experience of working under direct and indirect supervision.
• Recent experience of working in a therapy or nursing support worker role at Band 3 level or equivalent e.g. BSc student.
• Experience in dealing with the physical and emotional needs of patients or others.
• Experience of organising and prioritising own work
• Knowledge, underpinning theory of Occupational Therapy and/or Physiotherapy.
• Evidence of progressing treatment plans. • Knowledge of the use of walking aids and equipment.
• Knowledge of the process of rehabilitation and discharge.
• Evidence of prioritisation skills – ability to plan and organise own workload.
• Evidence of effective time management skills.

Desirable criteria

QCF or NVQ level 2/3 in Health and Social Care or related topic, or other relevant training e.g. A Levels
NHS experience
Experience of running an exercise group session.
Able to assess the patient’s response to treatment and know when to seek appropriate help, recognising and working within the limitations and boundaries of the Band 4 role.
Communication skills – evidence of communicating with aphasic and cognitively impaired patients and liaising with family members.

Night Care Assistant

How you'll make a difference

As a Night Care Assistant, you will play a vital role in safeguarding and supporting the wellbeing of young people at Vinney Green Secure Children's Home in Bristol. Using your previous experience of working in a challenging care setting, you will provide support throughout the evening and overnight period, helping to create a secure and stable environment for the young people.

From carrying out regular nightly checks and helping young people feel reassured and settled, to being part of their morning routine, you will become a familiar face. Through your calm and patient approach, you will help put young people at ease and provide the consistency they need to feel safe and supported.

Working within a secure children's home can be both challenging and highly rewarding. The young people in our care often have complex needs and may have experienced significant trauma, so resilience, empathy and a willingness to support them through difficult circumstances is essential.

Alongside your salary, this role includes a secure unit allowance of £2,903.04 per annum (pro rata for part-time hours). You'll also benefit from a one-third enhancement on all hours worked and additional rates such as time and a half for rostered Sunday shifts and double time for bank holiday shifts.
