Job overview

There is a good opportunity to join the Ultrasound Department at Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust as a Trainee Sonographer.

We are looking for a highly motivated, hardworking individual who can commit to an intense, but highly rewarding training course.  Applications are welcome from any health care professional with a 2:1 or above graduate qualification in their area of expertise, with at least two years post qualification experience. Previous radiographic imaging experience is desirable.

This post will give you the exciting opportunity to undertake a Post-graduate Certificate in Medical Ultrasound at the University of the West of England (UWE), whilst receiving full-time on the job training.

Upon successful completion, you will be a qualified Sonographer (Ultrasound Practitioner) with a nationally and internationally recognised Post-Graduate Certificate. The post holder is required to hold, or be able to apply for, HCPC, NMC or GMC registration as a condition of employment.

Main duties of the job

During this one-year training post, you will receive clinical and academic training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology Ultrasound to Post-Graduate Certificate Level. We would then look to employ the successful candidate as a  Sonographer, with a commitment to support completion of a Post-Graduate Diploma by the end of their 2nd year of employment, and a full MSc within five years, subject to continued employment at the Trust.

The Ultrasound Department is spread across the entire Hospital Site with five rooms in Radiology, three in Maternity, two in Gynaecology, one in Rheumatology, one in the Breast Unit and Fertility Centre with two peripheral Maternity sites at Tidworth Medical Centre and Westminster Memorial Hospital in Shaftesbury.  There is also one more room in the Community Diagnostic Centre which is located away from the acute site.

We have a mix of Samsung and Canon i700 machines across Radiology and Maternity, supported by two GE Logiq Es.

We carry out a wide range of ultrasound investigations covering inpatients, outpatients and one-stop clinics in Gynaecology, Breast, Rheumatology and Urology. We also provide ultrasound services to the Duke of Cornwall Spinal Treatment Centre.

Please see attached job description for full details of roles and responsibilities
