Job overview
We are looking for a highly motivated, experienced, and enthusiastic Band 7 Biomedical Scientist with experience or a keen interest in training to work within the Cellular pathology department, Salisbury District Hospital.
The successful candidate will:
Hold registration with the HCPC (Health and Care Professions Council) as a Biomedical Scientist. Have a BSc in Biomedical Sciences or equivalent. Have a MSC in a relevant subject, Fellowship of the Institute of Biomedical Science (FIBMS) or equivalent experience. Experience in a UK Cellular pathology laboratory is preferred.
Ensuring that quality management systems are maintained and implemented to maintain UKAS accreditation.
Main duties of the job
To manage and be in technical charge of multiple sections of the service. Required to check all aspects of the quality of teamwork, to detect problems and take appropriate remedial action where necessary. Manage daily staff rotas for work allocation for Biomedical Scientists, new staff, students and support staff.
To efficiently manage the training and supervision of Biomedical Scientists, Trainee Biomedical Scientists and support staff in the department, develop and improve professional expertise and specialist skills as required by the changing needs of the service. To foster a culture of continual learning. You will have great communication skills and leadership qualities to empower your team in a complex and busy department.
To be responsible for the documentation and management of the training records and data bases and the implementation of training programmes and schedules for all grades of staff including external placement and work experience students, in line with regulatory guidelines.
To ensure technical standards are maintained through internal and external QA schemes in accordance with ISO 15189:2022 standards for accreditation.
To support the delivery of a high quality, safe and compassionate healthcare service.
Laboratory working hours, Monday to Friday 8am to 5:30pm. There is a full and part-time post available.
