Job overview
Beech ward has an exciting opportunity available for an efficient and motivated person to join our team as our ward clerk. The successful applicants must demonstrate good interpersonal and IT skills.
Knowledge of the NHS computer systems would be advantageous; however, training will be available for the successful candidates. Your role will include the provision of administrative support to the nurses within a busy unit as well as the Early Pregnancy Unit/Emergency Gynaecology unit
We are seeking a team player who is able to work under pressure and prioritize their own workload, whilst responding to the needs of the department.
Shift times times will be ideally 09:00 to 17: 00. Monday to Friday
Main duties of the job
The Ward Clerk will undertake data inputting and administrative work whilst also providing reception duties for the ward/department as per standard systems and processes, in order to support effective patient flow. The Ward Clerk will need to work without close supervision, using their own initiative when dealing with enquiries that arise. Close co-operation with Medical Records, Secretarial staff as well as the clinical staff, is vital. The post demands the ability to communicate at all levels with patients, relatives and medical colleagues to maintain a high standard of service to meet the needs of the patient and the business.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The Ward Clerk will provide a comprehensive administrative service to Beech ward and EPU/EGU Unit .They will participate in creating a welcoming and friendly environment for patients and their families, and provide excellent customer service.
1. Support ward staff by undertaking administration duties.
2. Answer the intercom and welcome visitors to the department.
3. Act as a contact point for the ward for patient’s relatives and other visitors. Respond to all queries ensuring confidentiality is maintained.
4. Ensure telephone calls are responded to in a pleasant manner.
5. Refer all telephone calls in relation to clinical matters to the nurses.
