Job overview

Our friendly and progressive Pharmacy Department is currently looking for a dynamic and and forward thinking  qualified pharmacy assistant to join our Pharmacy Clinical Trials team.  Working closely with the wider Research and Development, you will help deliver vital Research across the Trust as we look to expand out portfolio and build on recent success.

This role will also involve working as part of the wider multidisciplinary team in pharmacy to deliver core pharmacy services.

Main duties of the job

The role will include working closely with the Senior Pharmacist and Lead pharmacy technician to ensure clinical trials are set up, dispensed and maintained to a high standard and in accordance with current policies, procedures and legal requirements.  You will take an active role in ensuring  pharmacy staff are trained  to the required standard as outlined in GCP (Good Clinical Practice).

 It will be expected that you are willing to learn and take responsibility in a diverse team. You will be highly motivated and organised, able to think on your feet with great communication and interpersonal skills.

Its expected that candidates will have Level 2 Pharmacy Services qualification and confident working in a hospital setting, ideally with experience in clinical trials.

You will spend time working as part of the pharmacy dispensary team, as well as taking part in the weekend, bank holiday and late-night rotas.

All Pharmacy staff involved in all aspects of Good Distribution Practice (EU GDP 2013/C 343/01) have a personal responsibility to ensure that all activities undertaken within our hospital Pharmacy are compliant with Good Distribution Practice (EU GDP 2013/C 343/01) and all relevant department procedures are followed effectively.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Minimum of 5 GCSEs or equivalent, including Maths and English, at Grade C or above
  • Knowledge of procedures for Pharmacy Services – on the job training, experience to NVQ3 or equivalent
  • NVQ Level 2 (Pharmacy Services) or equivalent
  • Dispensing accuracy accreditation. South West scheme or equivalent
  • Formal GCP training or willing and able to work towards
  • Previous training in clinical trials
  • Completed or willing to work towards PWDS Final Accuracy Checking Programme
Desirable criteria
  • Previous training in the Pharmacy services with a good education and understanding of GDP

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience working as a Hospital Pharmacy Assistant
  • Recent experience in a busy dispensing environment
  • Previous experience of pharmacy clinical trials
  • Able to work under pressure
  • Managing own workload to meet the needs of a service
  • Working in a team
Desirable criteria
  • Understanding of basic GMP
  • Attendance on a Leeds Clinical Trials course.
  • Experience in the set-up and running of a clinical trial in a pharmacy environment
  • Experience of training individuals
