Job overview

We are currently looking for an experienced and proactive medical secretary to join the Dermatology Department. 

The role requires a medical secretary with experience of working on their own initiative at a senior level and is able to offer a comprehensive secretarial and administrative support to the Consultants and their associated teams. As a senior medical secretary, you will be the first point of contact for patients, doctors and staff throughout the Health Board.

This post is fixed term for 12 months due to meet the needs of the service 

Main duties of the job

This challenging position requires someone who is a team player, flexible, organised and is able to work well under pressure. The successful candidate will need to be an experienced typist, qualified to RSA Typing Level III (or equivalent). This position also requires excellent communication skills, the ability to meet the demands of working in a busy environment and is able to represent the department with due professionalism.

Process documents accurately and efficiently using digital dictation, analogue dictation and as directed by the clinician and will demonstrate self-directed development and practice of patient administrative systems, whilst undertaking tasks that will require the individual to exercise judgement and expertise.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Essential criteria
  • NVQ Business Administration L4 or equivalent experience or City & Guilds (AMSPAR) Level 3 Diploma in Medical administration or equivalent medical secretary experience
  • RSA /OCR Level 3 or equivalent experience or qualification in typing
  • ECDL or equivalent experience
Desirable criteria
  • Management qualification or working towards
  • NVQ 3 Customer Service
  • ILM Level 2 (or working towards) relevant equivalent qualifcation
  • NHS Statutory and Mandatory Training

Experience
