Are you a proactive and detail-oriented registered Pharmacy Technician with a passion for sterile manufacturing and technical services?
Then join the dynamic pharmacy team at Wrexham Maelor Hospital in the role of Lead Pharmacy Technician – Aseptics and Technical Services.
In this pivotal role, you will lead the aseptic and technical services team, ensuring the safe and effective preparation of sterile medicines in line with national standards and regulatory requirements. You will be instrumental in driving service development, workforce planning, and quality improvement initiatives that support the delivery of high-quality patient care across North Wales.
As part of the senior pharmacy management team, you will oversee governance, risk management, and compliance within the licensed aseptic unit, while fostering innovation and continuous improvement. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to implement best practices in sterile manufacturing, support audit and research activities, and contribute to strategic planning across the Pharmacy and Medicines Management Clinical Programme Group.
The successful candidate will be a confident leader, committed to developing pharmacy technicians and support staff, and will play a key role in shaping the future of technical services within the Health Board.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Main duties of the job

Ensure compliance with the principles of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), MHRA guidance, and relevant Health Board policies within the aseptic and technical services unit.
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the aseptic unit, including workload planning, staffing, and quality assurance activities.

Lead on risk assessments and ensure risks associated with aseptic services are recorded and managed on the Health Board risk register.

Line manage pharmacy technicians and support staff within aseptic and technical services, including appraisals, training, and performance management.

Support the development and delivery of training programmes for aseptic services staff, including student pharmacy technicians and rotational staff.

Collaborate with the wider pharmacy team to ensure continuity of supply for aseptically prepared products, including during service disruptions.

Deputise for the Chief Pharmacy Technician and Lead Pharmacy Technician – Hospital Operations as required.

Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) for aseptic and technical services.
- Attend relevant local and national meetings, including All Wales Aseptic Services groups and technical services forums.

Essential criteria
- NVQ/QCF level 3 in Pharmacy Services or equivalent
- Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician
- ILM Management qualification level 4 or equivalent
- Registered pharmacy technician
Desirable criteria
- QCF Work Based Assessor
Experience

- A substantial level of post qualification experience in pharmacy services.
- Experience of managing pharmacy team(s)
