Job overview

We are seeking a motivated and forward-thinking Registered Pharmacy Technician to join our Clinical Cancer Services team at Wrexham Maelor Hospital. The successful candidate will be a proactive, detail-oriented professional with a passion for improving patient care through medicines management. Working within a multidisciplinary team, the postholder will play a key role in delivering a technician-led clinical pharmacy service for oncology and haematology patients.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in a dynamic clinical environment, is confident in providing specialist advice, and is committed to ensuring the safe, timely, and efficient use of Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT). The ideal candidate will be keen to develop their skills in electronic prescribing systems, contribute to service innovation, and support the delivery of high-quality cancer care across inpatient, outpatient, and homecare settings.

Main duties of the job

  • Deliver a technician-led clinical pharmacy service to oncology and haematology patients, supporting both inpatient and outpatient care.
  • Provide specialist advice on Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT) to clinicians, nurses, and administrative staff.
  • Coordinate the safe, timely, and efficient supply of SACT and supportive medicines, working closely with aseptic and dispensary teams.
  • Use electronic prescribing systems (e.g. Chemocare) to support medicines management processes.
  • Monitor and manage high-cost oral SACT stock, ensuring effective procurement and minimising financial risk.
  • Support the development and delivery of technician-led homecare services for patients receiving oral SACT.
  • Contribute to financial monitoring, KPI reporting, and audit data collection.
  • Provide pharmaceutical education and counselling to patients and clinical staff where appropriately trained.
  • Lead training for new team members and wider pharmacy staff, maintaining robust documentation.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of standard operating procedures for safe SACT prescribing and administration.
  • Engage with cancer clinical trial documentation and dispensing processes where relevant.
  • Represent the Pharmacy Cancer Services team at appropriate meetings.
