Band 3 Speech and Language Therapy Technical Instructor– Wrexham Flying Start (22.5 hours for 9 months)

We are looking to recruit a Speech and Language Therapy Technical Instructor on a fixed term basis to join our well established Flying Start Service.

Wrexham Flying Start is a programme funded by Welsh Government to support children aged 0-4yrs to have the best start in life and reach their full potential. We are a multi-disciplinary team who provide coordinated and intensive support to children and their families and work closely with partner agencies to ensure the needs of the individual children and their families are met.

Main duties of the job

THIS POST IS FIXED TERM/SECONDMENT FOR 9 MONTHS TO MEET THE NEEDS OF THE SERVICE

IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN APPLYING FOR THE SECONDMENT POSITION, YOU MUST OBTAIN PERMISSION FROM YOUR CURRENT LINE MANAGER PRIOR TO APPLYING FOR THIS POST.   

As a Speech and Language Therapy Technical Instructor, you will have specific responsibilities in carrying out delegated activities/therapy independently with selected children, working under regular supervision of specialist Speech & Language Therapists, and supporting them with appropriate clerical and administrative duties. In addition, you will be required to contribute to data collection, service evaluation, training and development.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Quality Credit Framework qualification at level 3 e.g. NVQ related to Health & Social Care, or working towards
  • Documented evidence of participation in training activities
Desirable criteria
  • Membership of professional body and/or special interest group

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Understanding of the role of Speech & Language Therapy.
  • Relevant experience working within health, social or education settings
  • Basic knowledge of some conditions that could impact upon communicative function in children and adults, relevant to the role.
  • Self-motivation for Continued Professional Development
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in working directly with people with communication challenges/other additional needs.
  • Understanding of the concept of normal development or rehabilitation/recovery as appropriate to the clinical area.
  • Basic knowledge of the principles of Clinical Governance
  • Awareness of Health & Safety legislation & practices.
