Job overview

The Adult Speech and Language Therapy Team in Betsi Cadwaladr East have an exciting development opportunity for a motivated and dynamic qualified speech and language therapist to develop their skills and our service supporting adults with a learning disability (ALD) who have communication and swallowing needs.

Main duties of the job

You will join our supportive and growing team of SLTs and technical instructors, providing services across a range of acute and community settings. We will support you to develop your independent dysphagia skills if needed, and you will have access to support and supervision across our highly skilled team.  We have a 'one team' approach to supporting our population, enabling us to be flexible to meet patient needs and to developing the skills and experiences of our clinicians. Your patients will have access to instrumental clinics (FEES and VFS) and you will have access to 1:1 and peer support, with links across the Health Board and Wales.  

We are interested in hearing from SLTs already working at Band 5 or 6 level for this opportunity. We have a robust development plan to support Band 5 SLTs to progress into a Band 6 post specialising in ALD.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Recognised qualification degree/equivalent in S&LT.
  • HCPC registered.
  • RCSLT registered.
Desirable criteria
  • Membership of appropriate clinical network group.
  • Demonstrate understanding & involvement of clinical governance and risk assessment.
  • Knowledge of health legislation/policy.
  • Alternative and augmentative communication knowledge & skills.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • A range of clinical experience across Adult/Paediatric SLT services.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of delegating work to non-registered staff.
  • Experience of working in multidisciplinary/ multiprofessional teams.
  • Experience of supporting service change.
  • Welsh/English therapy provision.

Aptititude and Abilities

  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of assessment tools.
  • Ability to self-evaluate.
  • Prioritisation skills.
  • Ability to work as a team member.
  • Varied clinical experience and knowledge.
