Are you a Family Therapist looking to support our families here in York? Are you keen to join a team of similar thinking people to deliver compassionate and inclusive care? If so, then we may have the right opportunity for you. We are able to offer maternity cover of a 12 month fixed term/secondment contract to a qualified Family Therapist. You will bring curiosity, compassion and systemic thinking to a team that is committed to collaborative practice and continuous improvement. Working within a motivated and supportive multidisciplinary service, you will contribute to the emotional wellbeing of young people by offering highly specialist systemic assessments, interventions, consultation and formulation within a Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service.   

This role may be eligible for sponsorship under the UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) Skilled Worker route. In this role, you will carry a defined caseload and provide specialist systemic assessment and therapy to young people and families presenting with a broad range of needs, including complex and challenging presentations. You will work autonomously while remaining embedded within a collaborative multidisciplinary structure, drawing on systemic theory to guide clinical decision‑making and support staff in thinking holistically about the difficulties young people face. A key focus of the role will be offering systemic consultations to colleagues, contributing to shared formulations, and supporting teams to develop relationally‑informed approaches to care. You will also provide teaching, reflective space and clinical supervision in systemic practice as appropriate, helping to develop the capabilities and confidence of the wider workforce.

Swydd-ddisgrifiad a phrif gyfrifoldebau manwl

The post holder will be responsible for delivering specialist systemic psychotherapy to children, young people and families, drawing upon a robust understanding of systemic theory and evidence-based practice. You will undertake specialist systemic assessments, develop and implement formulations and intervention plans, and work closely with other professionals to ensure coherent and coordinated care. The role includes contributing to safeguarding assessments, undertaking risk assessments, and maintaining high professional and clinical standards in line with relevant legislation, governance processes and professional codes of practice. You will provide systemic consultation and advice to staff from a range of disciplines, helping to enrich shared understandings of complex presentations and enhance the therapeutic environments in which care is delivered. Additionally, you will contribute to service development through participation in audit, research, policy development and service improvement projects, and will support ongoing learning through teaching, supervision and reflective practice. Throughout your work, you will uphold the Trust’s values and commitment to personalised, collaborative and relationally informed care.

Qualifications

  • Completion of qualifying level training in Family and Systemic Psychotherapy (Masters Level Training Course accredited by the Association for Family and Systemic Psychotherapy)
  • AND Full accreditation as a Family and Systemic Psychotherapist with UK Council for Psychotherapy and the Association for Family and Systemic Psychotherapy
  • AND Evidence of continuing professional development

Experience

  • Experience of working within mental health services and of delivering family and systemic psychotherapy within the designated service area and speciality
  • Experience in discussing and responding to issues related to cultural diversity, intersectionality and inclusivity, including working with vulnerable groups (e.g. those for whom English is not their first language)
  • Experience of working with multidisciplinary teams
  • Assessing and managing risk of self-harm / suicide

Knowledge
