Specialist Pharmacist - Homecare and Biologics
About the role
We are seeking a motivated and forward‑thinking Specialist Pharmacist to lead, coordinate and develop the Pharmacy Homecare Service across Noble’s Hospital, Ramsey & District Cottage Hospital, and Mental Health Services. This is a unique opportunity to take ownership of a key specialist service and make a real, visible impact on patient care.
You will be responsible for the day‑to‑day management and development of the homecare service, ensuring safe, effective and timely access to biologics and other high‑cost medicines across acute and specialist care settings. The role involves leading the implementation, monitoring and review of Trust policies relating to homecare, ensuring full compliance with professional and clinical standards, including the Royal Pharmaceutical Society Professional Standards for Homecare Services and the Hackett Report.
A strong emphasis of the post is on clinical excellence and governance. You will develop and deliver high‑quality patient‑focused services such as homecare consultations for initiation and switching of therapies, provide ongoing patient support, and lead on clinical screening of homecare prescriptions. You will also develop and maintain procedures for prescription screening, document control and approval, supporting safe and consistent practice across the organisation.
You will play a key role in developing processes to manage the funding and commissioning challenges associated with homecare medicines, ensuring best value alongside optimal patient outcomes.
As an active member of the wider Pharmacy Team, you will contribute to safe, effective and economical medicines optimisation for patients, carers and staff across our unique island healthcare system.
We would particularly welcome applications from pharmacists with a specialist interest or experience in gastroenterology, rheumatology, dermatology or neurology, or from those who are keen to develop towards a specialist role in one of these areas, with support for professional development built into the role.
