Job overview

Would you like to join a team of nurses who are supported by a multidisciplinary team ensuring patients are discharged safely back to the
community following  Elective orthopaedic surgery?
At Furness General Hospital we have a dedicated Elective Orthopaedic Unit which only operates for joint surgery.
An opportunity for a Band 5 Registered Nurse to work on the unit has become available.  Working alongside our skilled and dedicated team at
Furness General Hospital. The Unit specialises mainly in Total Hip and Knee Replacement surgery. This will involve a variety of shifts to work both, days and nights 7 days a week.

Main duties of the job

We expect staff to work together as a team to achieve the best outcomes; you will be encouraged to work with your manager to identify any learning needs to develop your skills, knowledge and competence in this area of nursing.  As a band 5 nurse you will be responsible for supporting patients from admission through to discharge, pre and post operatively.   As a nurse led unit nurses should be proactive in managing patient care, be able to work as a team and most importantly enjoy their job, show passion and commitment and prioritise patient care.  If you think you have these skills and want to work with a great team please apply.
Newly qualified Band 5 nurses are welcomed to apply; you can work towards Band 5 competencies & develop extended roles. Full support for
Preceptorship will be given.
Anyone newly appointed to the trust will be subject to the completion of a satisfactory 6 month probationary period (this includes bank staff).

Working for our organisation

We operate from three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
