Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full time Orthoptist to join the Orthoptic Team at North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will work alongside a dedicated team of Ophthalmologists, Orthoptists, Optometrists, Technicians & Nurses in a busy but supportive department.

The main base will be at Peterborough, with some clinics at Hinchingbrooke Hospital. Should a newly qualified Orthoptist be appointed, a period of preceptorship will be undertaken supported by departmental mentors and a well established Trust Preceptorship programme.

Applicants will need to be enthusiastic, motivated & be keen to work hard in a busy and friendly environment.

Main duties of the job

The Orthoptic Department is actively engaged with developing the role of the Orthoptist within the Hospital Eye Service, developing Glaucoma, Neuro-Ophthalmology, Medical Retina and Corneal services and progression opportunities are available for the right, enthusiastic candidate.

Duties will primarily be Orthoptic Clinics, with some additional diagnostic duties required periodically. Staff are fully supported in development with Newly Qualified Orthoptists supported by a dedicated Orthoptist.

Education/Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered or registering with HCPC
  • Diploma or Degree in Orthoptics

Experience

  • Evidence of continuing professional development
Desirable criteria
  • Post-graduation experience Teaching Qualification

Skills/Ability & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Orthoptic Ability in common Oculomotor conditions
  • Evidence based Practice
  • IT Skills
  • Ability to prioritise workload and and manage a personal caseload
Desirable criteria
  • Audit Experience
  • Knowledge or experience of Automated Visual Field Perimetry/Ocular Coherence Tomography
